The reason why he started backing up was he found out that He didn't have the power to actually beat Pac, even if he just boxes and uses his jab and if he misses, he will get hit 4 times. As I predicted Pac was just too fast and Cotto was just too slow..what was surprising was that Pac let himself get hit and Cotto didn't take advantage of it..When Pac took all of Cottos punches and still was able to go on and attack Cotto, it was actually the end of it. Cotto for me is still the best WW, He just lost to a boxing phenom and there is no shame there. Cotto fought the best boxer and didn't turn down any boxer.
Unlike Mayweather, classless! He is a welterweight but who did he beat other than Baldomir and Dela Hoya ? he almost lost to ODLH. He should fight Mosley first and try to get the Sugar's belt, then He can fight Pac.

The real Miguel Cotto died June 2008 when Margarito did what he did to him.
Not taking anything away from PAC, cuz he did what he had to do & did it very well even merciful at moments.
But the cotto that fought vs manny was not the same man that fought b4 the Margo beating. It's sad how Margarito ruined his career, wud get hit, get hurt, KD, & come right back & come strong, but like we saw in the clottey & PAC fight now he gets hit & runs, he's lost his heart & hunger.
Teddy Atlas was right, cotto is dmged goods, he's shot from the Margarito fight. Cotto has moments in fights where he looks like he's back, but than losses his steam & slows down & trows weak punches, his face has gotten destroyed in every fight after the Margo fight also.
Antonio Margarito destroyed a mans career just cuz he wanted to win a fight...
That's very sad.

This is a post I made a couple of hours after the Pacquiao-Cotto fight. I was kind of heated. It's simply copy/pasted here....


The ref should have stopped this fight earlier. But there were people in Cotto's corner that bore an even greater responsibility to Miguel. Joe Santiago, turn in your punch mitts! This is YOUR fighter. YOU are ultimately responsible for his career and, more importantly, his health.

Cotto was getting busted up in there. If you think it looks bad on TV, even in hi-def, it looks worse live. I don't know where Miguel's trainer's head was at. Maybe he was holding such a grudge against Freddie Roach that he wanted to make him eat his words at all costs.

There came a point, long before the (un)merciful stoppage, where it became clear that Cotto stood NO CHANCE of winning the fight against Manny. When that point was reached, SOMEONE'S finger should have been hovering over the "eject" button. Joe Santiago, you were asleep at the wheel!

HUGE props to Manny Pacquiao for a career-affirming, unquestionable victory over Miguel Cotto. (I wonder how I could have ever doubted you.) BIG props to Miguel for fighting on in the face of a murderous beatdown, like the true warrior he is. (No surprise that you wanted to continue.) Last, AND least: Thanks, Joe, for destroying what was left of a great fighter and class act. If Miguel Cotto wasn’t broken after Margarito, he surely is NOW.

2 things here.

MANNY Is a complete fighter who apparently knows how 2 make adjustments in the ring all of a sudden. I thought thaT COTTO'S jab was a thing of BEAUTY when he threw it but he had mental lapses throughout 4 whatever reason. He looked GOOD in spurts but he's not the same fighter he 1nce was. All the siGns of a weight drained fighter were there 2 me. He had no power, he was slow, he couldn't take a punch. He did better than OSCAR because he's younger but he CLEARLY was affected by the weight. You might think it was all MANNY but you guys have 2 ask yourselves why didn't MANYY wanna fight @ 147????? Anyway, I take my hat OFF 2 MANNY 4 becoming the first 7-time champion in the HISTORY of boxing.

I got nothing but love for Cotto. Dude is a champ and stand up guy. Regardless of when it should've been stopped, he deserved to go out in the blaze of glory like the warrior he is. Big props to Cotto, and CONG**** MANNY!!!!
