I'm a little surprised nobody has ever given props to this regimen when, I think this is the crucial aspect of Manny's training that helped him win the fight last Saturday.

Stick training is more of a mental toughness exercise (see video below) than physical. This prevents Manny from from showing he is hurt. In turn, Cotto became discouraged because it appeared he couldn't 'hurt' Manny even though he really did (Pac admitted Miguel's punches did hurt a lot).

If you saw Manny's guest appearance in Jimmy Kimmel, they did 'joke' about this training method, but this form of regimen is really 'no joke'.

it does seem an effective training techniqe..manny always looks in suberb condition. i think its one of those cases though where what works for one fighter, may not work for another.

i think you're right about it creating mental toughness.. i was shocked that manny took the punches he did without seeming at all troubled, or hurt in the slightest. looking at the pics after the fight though, it is obvious the shots from cotto were hurting manny, he just didnt let it show
