I thought it was an odd exchange because Jim phrased the question so "definitively". I think Jim used the phrase "completely shut Manny P down". And then Steward responded that it could happen.

I view it like this: Top ten ATG's don't get shut down. Ali, SRR, SRL etc have been beat, but never shut down. So, if we believe that Manny is on/near that level, then Floyd isn't shutting him down.

And if Floyd does that ( he won't), then Manny isn't on that level.

The biggest thing about Saturday night is that it really elevates Juan Manuel Marquez. JMM was the only fighter to be competitive with Pac

Steward was just caught up in the moment. I don't even think Pacquiao is a better fighter than his star fighter Tommy Hearns. He damn sure ain't coming close to Ali or Sugar Ray Robinson. He is a marvel though, and I can understand why Manny Steward would say that after being overcome with emotion after witnessing and calling an all time classic victory by the Pacman. My take on something like that, although I didn't hear what you're talking about, is no matter if Floyd beat Pacquiao, it doesn't mean he'd be ranked above him as an ATG overall.

You are right. Just like Kirklain laing or however you spell isnt better than Duran, even though he beat Duran. Or Randolph Turpin isnt greater than SRR, even though he beat SRR once.

Pac has beat so many more known names than PBF. While PBF has been chilling out, letting pac do all the donkey work.
If PBF did beat Manny would probably be due to manny beating up on so many names and is plain worn out beating up on so many people.

The funny thing with Steward is, in his pre-fights, he usually picks against PAC, and post-fight, he always says, "I've been saying it all along, that's exactly how I saw it", lol.

But, he also said he'd favor Floyd over PAC in his post-fight commentary right after PAC - Cotto.
