The BBC Sport is reporting that former Olympian and undefeated heavyweight Audley Harrison is going to vacate his WBF heavyweight title in order to pursue a career in the United States. Harrison has not fought since last June due to a hand injury and was actually on the verge of being stripped by the WBF for not defending the title. [details]

I hate harrison, he claims all this stuff about being world champ, then backs it up with only a few fights every year against no bodies. I won`t pay attention any more and i hope he loses!

I understand why people hate Harrison, but to be fair he has been injured for almost a year, and his progress has been hindered with injury before then. Harrison is at the stage where he needs to be fighting every other month. He needs to get in with someone like Whitaker, Nobles, Donald or even maybe the winner of Brock-McCline to raise his profile and move closer to a shot at a genuine title. I have the same feelin I always get with Harrison, that any progress is going to be made a lot more slowly than it needs to be

never mind those guys he hasn't even taken on the best british or european boxers yet, his career has moved at a snail's pace so far, and it shows no sign of getting faster any time soon

That's true but if we take Harrison at his word, he cares about winning a major world title. He probably figures that taking on the best in Britain and Europe is a less direct route - and probably a more risky one. His manager said yesterday that his next opponent is going to be announced very soon - I just hope it's not a fight against a bum which he justifies as a necessity to work off the ring rust he's got from a year out.
