                Smart in terms of not havin to put in the most work. But not smart in terms of legacy. And no guarantee he beats Pac anyway.

                        Face it.. Mayweather is smart but for his legacy if he had beaten the other top fighters to finally have a showdown with Pacquaio would have been crazy

                            In my post, read it CAREFULLY, did I say ANYTHING about Mayweather RETIRING?

                            I'm just referring to...

                            Cotto beat Mosley
                            Margarito beat Cotto
                            Mosley beat Margarito
                            Cotto beat Clottey
                            Pacquiao beat Cotto
                            Paul Williams moved up in weight

                            Instead of being in on the action, he let all these guys fight each other. Now all he has to do is beat Pacquiao and he will get all the credit in the world. Maybe not here on boxingscene, but by most people and just average fans.
