did Cotto do himself a disservice by running?

not that he had much choice after a while

Puerto Ricans are known to have tremendous courage and heart did Cotto do himself a disservice by running towards the later stages of the fight?

Trinidad would never resort to running from his opponent like that and knowing how Puerto Rican fans feel about their fighters has Cotto gone down in their evaluation of him at all by that performance

he continued for the sake of his fans, he was hurting in the last rounds.

and he was humble in the end to admit it.

trinidad hasn't come across a power puncher at pacs caliber in his fights.

I think he was still trying to survive, he didn't want to get KO'd.

a lot of people will respect cotto because he is cotto...it did look a little sad to me...but it's always been a part of boxing to me...i'm just wondering if people who watch floyd or dirrell fights will have a better appreciation of what they do if they found valor in what cotto did...i seriously doubt it...but they do that and win so...

Exactly. It was the only way he would last 12 rounds. He knew he couldn't hurt pac. Pac ruined him mentally early in the fight by standing in front of Cotto and letting him take free shots. But Cotto couldn't even make him flinch.

difference is, cotto doesn't go in with the intention of running. he's not looking to outpoint someone. his style is to come forward and try to take the other guy out. he only runs when he's gassed or in deep ****, swallowing pints of his own blood. why is he sometimes gassed and swallowing pints of his own blood, you may ask? because he has the balls to go into the fray and fight. he takes risks. fans appreciate that, even fans of his opponents.

Honestly, though I'm a pacfan and won some points here, LOL, I feel sad for Cotto... but that how it goes.. one should win and one should lose... Its just sad in Cottos' side... But he is happier than me now with his $7 or more millions.

if you followed cottos matches he resorts to back pedaling to use counter punches with lead left jab. manny was not going to run after him with him WAY ahead and get caught. he could chill back.

all other fights you watch cotto backing up like that is if he is ahead. he can relax and catch the fighter.

he was just trying to survive, no shame in that at all.

Yup. He wanted to last the full 12.
