It's interesting because Morales beat guys that beat Barrera but Morales had trouble with Barrera. I'm a huge Morales fan, I think Morales and Barrera fought even in the trilogy. I think the first fight was a draw, the second was Morales "even though they gave to Barrera", and the 3rd was Barrera "even though Morales had more in the tank at the end and was hurting Barrera". But Morales's career was better, he dominated 122 with like 7 or 9 defenses of the title, He beat good guys at 126 too like Chi who was a young beast when Morales beat him, He smoked Ayala, who had never been schooled like that.
IMO, Morales shortened the careers of Chi, Ayala, Jesus Chavez,Carlos Hernandez etc... because those fights were all tough fights with morales getting the better over 12 rounds. And then of course the win over Pacman after Pac had beat down Barrera like that really puts him ahead of Barrera even though Barrera lasted 12 with Pac after that, still Barrera didnt really try to beat Pac "just survive".

And Morales got a gift decision against Barrera.

Barrera won the 1st fight, but they gave it to Erik. Erik won the 2nd, and they gave it to Marco to even it out.

But there's no doubt in anybody's mind that Marco beat that ass all over the ring in the 3rd fight ; ****, Morales looks like he didn't even want to be in there that night.

In the third fight, Morales thought he could overpower Barrera and wouldnt have to really outthink him but Barrera started fast and smoked Morales over the first half of the fight, the second have was much more even with Barrera tiring badly at times and initiating alot of holding. Morales actually rocked Barrera a couple times in the last half and I thought Morales looked the fresher at the end with Barrera really looking sloppy but there's no doubt that Barrera won it. In the first fight, I see a draw after watching it about a 100 times over the years. I see that trilogy as even. Barrera was also starting to fight in a dirty style around the time of the third fight as he would continue against Marquez and others later in his career.
