Hatton's punch resistance was gone by the time he fought Pacquiao. Even if Hatton could have taken Pacquiao's best shots, his face would have ended up torn to pieces.

Pacquiao is not a human. Cotto and Hatton are!

I think Hatton needs to get in the gym. The Hitman's looking terrible these days.

But seriously, he was always a fighter with a fairly limited skillset but tons of heart and a willingness to scrap and just outwork you - which is why I was a fan of his to begin with. When he tried to change his game to be more technically proficient by the textbook, he moved away from his gritty style and as a result was no longer fighting at his best. He, like many other fighters, had his flaws exposed by Floyd - no shame in that. I very highly doubt that this fight suddenly took everything out of him.

At the time he fought Pacquiao, I think he was still a good to very good fighter when fighting within his own style. The loyalty and support of his British fans helped make him perhaps a bigger draw than his skill level would have suggested, but he was still a good fighter.

Going back to the thing about his willingness to scrap - it definitely ended in an ugly way when he fought Manny, and he would want to go back and come up with a different gameplan, but he fought to win rather than to not lose, which is something that you certainly can't say about Cotto tonight.

Cotto was lucky to survive that long Manny would have finished him in the 4th but Cotto got saved by the bell. It looked to me that Pacquiao stepped of the peddle and didn't really want to take Cotto out in the last 4 rounds.
