From Dog House Boxing
Juan Lazcano was excited, animated and frustrated as he addressed the media late Monday night in front of the El Paso Museum of Art. At the end of a long statement, he said he wanted to fight his promoter, Oscar De La Hoya, in the Sun Bowl at a future date.
Lazcano will not be fighting on Saturday night's HBO pay-per-view card, and that is the problem. Golden Boy Promotions, which signed a six-fight contract with Lazcano, issued a press release earlier Monday night saying Lazcano would not fight for personal reasons.
"I was supposed to fight Justin Juuko, but he wanted more money and he wanted to fight at a lesser weight, so he negotiated his way out of the fight," Lazcano said. "That was two weeks ago. They said they would find me an opponent, but they found a guy who had no videotape. I asked them and asked them to get me a tape, and finally they called me back, left me a message, saying there was no videotape and that I would just have to trust them. I just can't go into something blindfolded at this stage of my career."
Marilyn Aceves, a spokesperson for Golden Boy Promotions said, "Golden Boy was very disappointed that Juan decided not to fight."
Lazcano, speaking passionately, said, "They leave me no choice. They have pushed me against the ropes. When you are pushed against the ropes, there is only one thing you can do -- fight your way out. I'm challenging Oscar De La Hoya to a fight at welterweight (147). We have common opponents -- John John Molina and Jesse James Leija. I'm at 140 right now. I can put on muscle and get to 147.
"So I challenge Oscar to a fight in a sellout crowd at the Sun Bowl for doing business that way. They are trying to discredit my name. This would be great for boxing because we are both warriors. I hope Oscar does the right thing and accepts the fight. It's a win-win situation. And I apologize to my fans in El Paso for not fighting on this card."
De La Hoya was in Miami on Monday and was unable to be reached for comment.
LMAO!I guess if Lazcano wants to make a name for himself, this might be the way to do it.Although he'd probably get the beating of his life.
