Im from the DMV which is the DC, Maryland, VA area. We have this show here called "Washington Post Live", created by the world famous newspaper. Because they are popular they always manage to get top notch guest wether its atheltetes, actors, actresses, and so on. Theyve been talking about the fight the past few days but I keep missing it.
I hit the DVR today and just rewatched the interview they had with Roach. Some things stood out to me that he said. The interviewer asked him about his 1st round prediction and Roach said that he's watched alot of Cotto fights and he's been hurt badly in the 1st round like 4 times. He said that he always gets out of it by resulting to low blows and things. He said after the 1st round then Cotto is pretty resilent but if Pac gets him hurt then there is no way he survives it because Pac is a finisher. Thats why he wants Pac to start fast because he thinks Cotto is really shaky early.
The interviewer then asked him about the size issue and Roach openly says again that the size is a factor but Pac's speed is too much for him. He said that he's studied all of Cotto's fights in & out and he still hasnt recovered from the Margarito KO. He said Cotto is much much slower now. He said that he's seen all his fights pre Margarito and post Margarito, and he's just not the same guy after that beating. He said he thinks he's still feeling the effects of that KO and thats why he wants Pac to start fast because he beleives that he will get discourared very quickly if Pac jumps out early. He doesnt want Pac to let Cotto build any momentum and start gaing confidence.
The interviewer asked him where does he rank Pac and Roach said what he's doing is Henry Armstrong type stuff, that he's top 10 of All Time, and that we will never see another Pac again in our life time. The interviewer then said that he doesnt want to overlook Cotto but he expects Pac to win, and he wanted to know will we get the fight we all want to see next which is Pac vs Mayweather. Roach said that he wants Floyd next and Pac wants Floyd. He said that the fight will be the biggest fight in history and biggest PPV fight in history. He said everywhere he goes thats all people ask him about. He said that Floyd asking for 65/35 is a nice way of saying NO to the fight. He said that he thinks both guys should agree to 50/50 and make it happened
