Roger Mayweather: “I’d be shocked if Pacquiao beats Cotto!”

Ace Freeman caught up with top trainer Roger Mayweather at Mayweather Central in Las Vegas to get his thoughts on this weekend’s Pacquiao vs. Cotto mega fight. Don’t miss what he had to say, only on FightFan.com!

FF: Roger there’s a big fight coming up this weekend between Manny Pacquiao and Miguel Cotto. What do you think of the style match up in that fight?

RM: Style don’t mean **** in that fight. Pacquiao doesn’t move his head or slip punches very well so it’s not about the style…

FF: Do you think this is a fight where size is a factor?

RM: I believe it is. I believe that if Cotto walks his ass backwards, he’s going to wear him down and stop him. If Cotto walks Pacquiao back, I don’t see any way Pacquiao can win the fight.

FF: What do you think of Cotto as a fighter?

RM: He’s all right. He’s an okay fighter. He’s good a good left hand. Don’t get me wrong, Pacquiao’s a good fighter but I don’t see tremendous skill in him. I think Cotto is too big and strong and that he’ll walk him back and stop him.

FF: There are those who suggest Cotto is somewhat damaged from the Margarito fight…-

RM: Most people don’t know **** about boxing! A lot of fighters come back from a loss without a problem so I wouldn’t worry about what people say. Look at how many titles Tommy Hearns won. People said he was damaged when he lost to Ray Leonard. How many big fights did he come back to win after that? It just goes to show you that most people don’t know **** about what it means to receive punishment because they haven’t boxed a day in their life!

FF: I was alluding to the fact that the beating Cotto suffered against Margarito might have been compounded by Margarito possibly having cement in his gloves…

RM: He may have… but Cotto is still fighting and he’s still winning.

FF: Did you see the Cotto vs. Clottey fight?

RM: Yea. I thought he won. I thought he pulled it out.

FF: From a trainer’s perspective what does Manny Pacquiao need to do in this fight to overcome Cotto’s advantages in size and strength to win the fight?

RM: It’s hard for me to say. I don’t really know. I don’t see Pacquiao as having tremendous boxing skills and he’s going to need to out box Cotto. I think Cotto’s a big strong physical guy and he hits harder than Pacquiao. That’s why I think that he’ll pressure Pacquiao and beat him.

FF: What do you think Pacquiao’s chances are to pull out the win?

RM: I’d be shocked if Pacquiao won this fight. Shocked. Like I said, I see Cotto putting on the pressure, going to the body and that should win him the fight. I’ll be watching and we’ll see.

FF: Well I’ll swing by next week after the fight is over to get your thoughts on it…

RM: You come by and we’ll see if my prediction was right!

FF: As always Roger we appreciate your time.

    RM: All right then.

Good Stuff by Roger, he gave props to both fighters and evaluated the fight with no bias......we shall see if what he thinks is true.....

If Roger is underrating Pacquiao THIS much, I wouldn't be too confident in Floyd facing Pacquiao. After reading all this all I could say is "WOW".

Because Roger trains Mayweather. If Roger can't acknowledge how good Pacquiao is; I wouldn't be too confident in Mayweather facing off against Pacquiao.
