Las Vegas. Pleased.
After 12 weeks of intense work, Miguel Cotto closed training camp yesterday and said it remains to wait patiently until the time they need to scale up today to mark the agreed weight of 145 pounds.
"I'm happy with the work done. All camps have been excellent and has not been the exception, "Cotto told reporters shortly after concluding a light training session at the gym, Top Rank.
"People will see a Miguel Cotto in excellent physical condition," he added.
Unlike previous occasions, the weigh in was scheduled to begin today at 3:15 pm (7:15 pm ET, Puerto Rico) because it will be broadcast live on HBO, which will inable Cotto eat during the day, a situation that is not pleasing to the corner of Cotto.
"It bothers every boxer. We expected it to be a little early, but we're used to the schedule in Las Vegas. This task will be difficult to keep him calm so that Miguel is not thinking about weight, but people will see that Michael did not have trouble making the 145 pounds, "said Santiago.
Although they would not reveal if in fact Miguel has touched the agreed weight, Santiago predicted that there will be no need foir a morning run.
"We hope that we do not do anything. After he wakes up is only an issue to be weighed, if there is to do nothing, rest and if he needed it will be something lighter and he would be good to go weigh in the afternoon. If you have to do something, you decide in the morning, "said Santiago.
Rumors that Manny Pacquiao's representatives demanded a clause in his contract stipulating that Cotto would be fined about $ 1 million for every pound that is above the 145 circulated in recent weeks. However, the legal adviser to the boxer, Gabriel Penagaricano, dismissed them as false.
"There is no contractual waiver relating to fines or something like that. I do not know where they came from such comments, but I can assure that is not true, "said Penagaricano.
Cotto met yesterday with a television interview before entering the hot Top Rank gym for a routine consisting of rope, floor exercises, jacket, gauntlets and wild pear before culminating with stretching.
"We all have seen the physicist who is Miguel. There was a calmer work to approach the weight for tomorrow (today) 145 lbs mark. Heated for 30 minutes with footwork and then the cooling process, which lasts about 20 minutes longer, "says Santiago.

Why the weigh in so late? Cotto is not going to be able to eat all day until after 7:00 east time and after 3:00 Las Vegas time. Another BS move if you ask me.
