People here in Vancouver are aware of him. Perhaps not mindless crackheads and junkies who don't have a computer or TV, but all reasonably intelligent people.

Does EVERY man and women in Vancouver know Manny Pacquiao? People who have maybe never watched a boxing fight in their life still knows Manny Pacquiao? Hell then I guess Manny Pacquiao is just as famous as Muhammad Ali and Mike Tyson... I think not.

You completely missed the point of the thread, but thankfully most people understood. What I said in the opening post is that CASUAL SPORTS FANS who are not serious boxing fans that saw Pacquiao-De La Hoya and Pacquiao-Hatton were very impressed and wanted to see more of him.

I didn't say every single human being on the planet has heard of him, but CASUAL SPORTS FANS all over the world know who he is and his fame is growing.

Well ok but I doubt thats true either... Both serious and casual boxing fans all obviously know who Manny Pacquiao is... But just casual sport fans who maybe have never seen a fight in their life most likely don't know Manny Pacquiao. Casual sport fan can just mean a guy that watches football or soccer or whatever it doesn't have to mean that they have even watched a boxing match in their life you know. Guys like Muhammad Ali and Mike Tyson where known by people even if they didn't follow boxing or even sports at all, they where basicly a household name in every part of the world... Manny Pacquiao is not even close to have the same global stardom as Ali and Tyson had.

              Exactly!

And children need good role models, not foul-mouthed poor sports like David Haye, or rapists like Mike Tyson.

David Haye is a jackass but i feel sorry for Tyson. He seems like a very good human being with a lot of psychological problems.

I agree...I think Tyson is mentally unstable...Probably something that happened to him while growing up....

I feel sorry for Tyson too - I realize he's had psychological problems. But that being said, he's been a poor role model for children.

I remember when some people called De La Hoya vs. Mayweather "the fight to save boxing", but I felt that was ridiculous, since I could hardly stay awake watching it...

But everybody who saw Manny Pacquiao fight Oscar was impressed! It left an impression in their minds, something like "this is someone I want to watch again". And Manny's brutal KO of the four-year Ring champion at light welterweight, Ricky Hatton, must have left people with a similar feeling about Pacquiao as they had about Mike Tyson in the late 80s. People who are not serious boxing fans, in the same sense as we on boxingscene are, they ARE EXCITED about this guy and want to know when Manny's next fight is!
But the sad thing is that Pac is at the tail end of his career now and winding it down.
Its a shame he had to beat so many great names, over so many years to get the reputation and adulation he enjoys now.
But he will have come and gone.
