Why Mayweather Should Announce a Free HBO Homecoming Fight.

If anything were to improve Floyd “Money” Mayweather‘s public perception with both the fans and the media this is something I think Floyd should consider. Why?

He has nothing to lose and everything to gain by doing this. He reestablishes his stock. The fans will look at this as a favor by Floyd making it a free HBO event. It will maximize his exposure to the audience old and new.
It would be much better and more action-packed than De La Hoya vs. Forbes debacle. HBO would heavily promote this WCB event and most likely would not offer Floyd anything less than 5-6 Million to take the fight.

The fight could be a fight that would not present an actual threat to Mayweather and would avoid the inevitable criticism for the fact that is a “free” fight.

The fight could be against a naturally bigger opponent or faster opponent and act as a real tune up for “Money” if he fights Pacquiao or Cotto.
This fight would pretty much act as a big promotional event for the next fight that would be the fight of the decade for sure.
He could only look good perception wise and physically wise if he made a fight like this happen early next year. The fight would be on all Mayweather’s terms. Money would make a decent pay check, stay active make HBO happy and would bring the channel World Class Boxing’s biggest ratings win ever.

Possible opponents for a fight like this.

Collazo ( A recognizable name, Southpaw, Marketable look, minimal threat, lacks punching power but will make for an interesting fight) Great for Pacquiao Preparation.

Cintron ( A recognizable name, Puerto Rican, Poses small threat but very vulnerable, Mayweathers mind games would destroy Cintron before they enter the ring) Great for Cotto Preparation

There are certainly more that would be mentioned.
This is just my take. Feel free to add yours.

Hopefully this isn’t just wishful thinking.

    1. He's already had a tuneup
    2. I doubt he could make the type of money he likes to make for fights with this
    3. He'd be bashed for not fighting Mosley, Cotto, or Pac, etc.

It wont do any good. Usually being part a PPV makes the customer believe that fighter and his opponent are PPV-quality. Even De La Hoya on 5 de Mayo weekend and on free HBO couldn't get in the ratings they were hoping for.

floyd is on a fight once a year type ****.he wants to be almost like the superbowl of boxing.and i guess if he can spread out his time in the ring over time by fighting less, than i supposed that's smart.

I'd want to see Mayweather face a WW on Free HBO. A Collazo or a Clottey; either one.

I think most fans knew De la Hoya was done, he was coming off of a lose and steve forbes was a feather fisted featherweight. I think if Money did this in January it would do wonders for his career. HBO would put up a cool 5 million i think for this. I know everyone would tune in for this. It would get millions of viewers.

I lol'd at this line, i think his 1mil ppv comeback proves his stock is already established.

It would be wicked awesome and a very nice thing for him to do, and good pr to fight on HBO, but its most likely not going to happen, and i don't think it benefits him at all.

plus he risks a huge upset of his undefeated record for little pay, not worth it, cause as long as he's undefeated people who hate him will buy ppvs hoping he loses, as long as his opposition is B class or better

Side note: i know there is know money in it, but it'd be nice to see the occasional big name fight on espn, after all not everyone has hbo and showtime, (although most boxing fans i've ran into have both, for boxing, like myself)

Floyd would defeat Clottey no doubt, however floyd would have to work for that and he wouldn't look good beating him.
I think a opponent from a different race unless its mosley or berto would have to be a must too.

Nice thought, but it will never happen. The public would feel guilty for watching Floyd for free.
