    Trainers Who Never Fought

With all the verbal jabs going back and forth between Freddie Roach and Cottos camp, the one that got my attention was Roach belittling Joe Santiago's training ability for the simple fact that he was never a boxer himself. It is true that the vast majority of trainers in the business have had some actual fighting experience. But there are a few exceptions. I guess Angel Dundee would've never gotten a job with Roach. Can anyone think of other successful trainers out there who were never boxers?

there are many who were never boxers, roach thinks just because he had a mediocre record he is a better trainer,he must be kidding, trainers do not make fighters they are basically water boys and towel fetchers,a fighter is the person that wins or loses,if a boxer did not need water in between rounds we would not even need a trainer in the ring, when i go watch a fight i do not say lets go watch this fight because roach is training,i watch the fight because of the boxers and one day the sport would not need any one in the ring but the fighters and the ref

i wrote it and i believe it,you think for one moment without roach pac loses,if pac had his mother in the corner he still gets the win, there is not one so called trainer that has any influence on a fighter, past or present that would be the difference in a win or loss for the fighter

Being a good trainer doesn't mean you have had to be a good fighter or even fight at all....

Side comment: how the recent posters haven't actually given you an answer.

I dont think i would be comfortable as a fighter knowing that my trainer hadnt been there and done it himself and experienced the same things i was going through as a fighter. But thats just me some people dont seem to have a problem with it.
