Rumor: Mayweather Might Fight In England

    HITTIN THE ROAD?

I was told by a pretty good source that Floyd Mayweather’s first fight of 2010 could take place in England in late January or February. I know that Golden Boy Promotions CEO, Richard Schaefer was in England the past few days after spending some time in Germany for the David Haye-Nicolai Valuev fight.

Not sure just who Mayweather would face or exactly where, but it does seem to make some sense. If he’s not going to face the likes of Shane Mosley or Manny Pacquiao/Miguel Cotto in the first half of the upcoming year, why not take the show on the road if he’s going to face rather non-descript opposition? Also, Golden Boy has a corporate partnership with AEG, which has venues all throughout Europe and the world.

I know some will howl in protest if Mayweather doesn’t face one of the names mentioned above, or the likes of Paul Williams, but I actually think this could be a pretty good idea in terms of creating sizable events across the world and expanding Mayweather’s profile internationally.

We’ll see if this actually comes to fruition. - Steve Kim

I'd boycott this if it comes off and probably watch it on a replay or download it for the fix.

If one of the sports' top fighters and most popular, needs to step up and fight the fights fans want to see or suffer the consequences. For the sake of boxing.

Interesting, would expect Steve Kim to rail him for something like that. I guess he is right though if he is going to fight a non descript guy do it overseas and build a larger worldwide appeal.

I have to wonder who he would fight, I agree with Kim though I will believe it when I see it.

It would depend on who he fought. Say Arum and Floyd can't agree for whatever reason so he goes a different direction with Manny or only makes a token effort, should Floyd just sit there and wait for Mosley?

He is a fighter so he should be fighting, I agree he should be fighting the best possible guy but negotiations are not that simple and **** happeans. It is always good to have a back up plan.

If Mayweather doesn't fight Cotto, Mosley or Pacquiao next he should get banned from the sport of boxing.
