Ok I haven't' posted in about 6 months every since the fight was announced, but I'm so damn excited that I can't help myself on this one. I believe and I'll say it again "I believe" that Cotto has the major advantages and I'll explain why: First of all Cotto has one of the best Jabs below middleweight, and his timing is superb.
His defense is very solid against most punches with uppercuts being his weakness, but may not be anymore, we'll have to see what new he has learned. He can take a virtual nuclear rocket to the face and still move along, and ain't nobody out there gonna tell me that Manny hits anywhere near as hard as Judah, Mosley or Margarito. Say what you want about Judah but that boy can punch...when he wants to. Mosley ko'ed Margarito...and he's the only one who can say hit did that.
Pacquiao is very fast, but we're not talking about Ricky "Block with my face" Hatton or Oscar "I drained to much weight now I look like the Crypt Keeper" De La Hoya. Unless Cotto stands there and gets hit with every thing but the ring bell while swinging with wild hooks at thin air, he will win.
I've watched the Diaz fight, both JMM fights, that ridiculous destruction of Hatton and his fight against Oscar the Crypt keeper over and over again and the one things I've noticed is counter punching. Diaz and Hatton haven't quite learned that art, because counter punching also includes defense and they both have neither. Crypt Keeper couldn't have defended himself against a small house cat, let alone a speedy guy like Manny. Then there was Juan Manuel Marquez... this is where the story gets interesting. This guy stood in there with the lb for lb best and baited him, set traps and nullified the superior speed of his opponent. Of course many will say "well he lost too didn't he"...right, yep after personally scoring both fight multiple time I disagree.
Cotto is the Juggernaut version of JMM, and he can take any punch Pac can throw but we know that the same thing can't be Said for Pac. This will be a chess match fight, where more than speed comes into play. If anyone on this forum are currently or have previously been athletes in multiple sports including boxing you know what i'm talking about. This is the fight where If that smaller man starts taking those huge shots he will never be the same.
Pacquiao can't ruin Cotto, but Cotto can ruin Pacquiao, Manny will throw many punches from various angles, but we all know that the shortest distance between two objects is a straight line. The Cotto jab will be the difference, the beginning and the end. Manny will think he's being hit with left crosses as opposed to simple jabs, and they will start the blood letting of our lb 4 lb great.
I want people to argue and disagree because this is the best part about our beloved sport, that could all change come fight night...lol!
