    Most Devastating Types of Punches?

I've noticed when people get hit by a hook or uppercut they are usually always OUT. Whereas the straight left/right punches popular by Manny and Kostya just put their opponents on their ass. Do you really think people are badly hurt by a straight punch where it doesn't really shake you up as much though might just hurt badly, especially getting it on the nose where you can break it. Uppercuts seem to be the most deadly when they aren't seen because they just send your head straight up while you've been focused straight ahead. While hooks seem to hurt no matter if opponent is looking or not because they just mess up your equilibrium. Hmmm?

Hooks probably account for more knockdowns and knockouts than any other punch. However, the right cross is truly a devastating punch if thrown by a master. Joe Louis' right hand was phenomenal, among the best the division had ever seen. Max Baer's was lethal in the literal sense. Tyson and Marciano both had a nasty overhand right.

The right hand is probably the all time classic punch in boxing: there are accounts of fighters with terrific right hands dating back to the ancient Greeks.

The most deadly punch the sport has ever seen is probably Thomas Hearns right cross. If thrown correctly and landed with full extention it means nite-nite....

Sven Ottke had a mean right cross as well. I'm suprised someone didn't already mention him before me.

All jokes aside....George Foreman's haymakers were pretty hard also..

the two most powerful punches known to man are

            1. hook
            2. wing chun rising sun punch (super jab more or less)

the reason you see uppercuts take people out often is because they are ducking or coming in looking to land something of their own when they get stuck with it, same with most KO's, the guy is coming in trying to land something and gets stuck. occassionally you'll see a passive guy get KO'd, but 80% of the time it's the other way around. plus another thing about the uppercut when you are leaning forward and catch one it's the worst possible punch you can take, aside from a power hook behind the ear

The most effective is the Dragon Punch or the Tiger Uppercut.
Ryu forever scarred Sagat on his chest with a devestating Dragon Punch.
              (Sho-ryu-ken!!!!)

The reason hooks and other kinds of swinging punches knock out people more is because of the angle in which they connect. When hit on the chin by a sideways punch, the head twists and the blood vessels in the brain are ripped from the sides of the skull. This screws up the equilibrium worse than a straight punch in which the skull bounces back and the brain strikes the back and front of the skull (standard concussion, might not even notice it until later). A perfect example of this when Vitali used that short left hook on Danny Williams at the end of the third round. Danny had taken far harder punches, but that one was right on the tip of his chin.

You must also take in to account that hooks and uppercuts are usually not seen coming in, therefore the mind/body has no time to stabilize its self to prepare for the incoming blow. The crosses will still drop you with the amount of power that they have behind them, but it seems rarely does this knock a person out cold. They may be messed up bad, but they wont be out. The uppercuts and hooks are the killer shots. Ever here somebody say that its the shots that you dont see that get you, well these are those shots. When struck unexpectedly by a hook or an uppercut your body goes into a self defense system like the opposum. Your system will just shut down and you will drop like you are dead.

I still say that the most devestating shots are the ones to the soloplex or sternum. With a ko blow to the head, you feel nothing. You just drop, wake up sometime later and feel a bit light headed. With the shots to the sternum or soloplex it is pure agony. When struck with these blows it suddenly feels as if somebody is squeezing your lungs in a powerfull grip as you gasp looking for air. Your legs will become very shaky and weak, similar to when stunned by a head shot. And the ***** of it is that you are left standing there, trying to recover from the blow as your opponent rains punches upon you. If you were dropped from the shot atleast you would get 8 seconds to recover, but a true fighter will stand his ground and fight with what he can find inside of him, until the pain and breathing difficulty go away, sometimes it takes a couple of rounds for the breathing to be normal but the pain will be there for weeks to come. Sometimes it would seem better to just take a knee and get the rest, but we fighters battle through what everything. If Im still conscious, than you still got a fight on your hands...........Rockin'
