  • Why do people act like the Hatton who fought Mayweather was any better than..

    the one Pacquiao fought?

Sure he was undefeated but I'm guessing people have forgotten the Collazo and Urango fights? Hatton was looking like **** then too.
& I know somebody will try to point to the Castillo fight but by the time Hatton fought Castillo, he was a shell of his former self.

People will say, well.. he struggled against Juan Lazcano! As if he didn't struggle against Collazo or Urango?

Hatton is a decent fighter with a massive fan base but he's never been what people make him out to be. If it wasn't for his mass appeal, I don't think he would even be considered a top name in either fighter's resume.

He's beat some decent guys but other then Kostya Tszyu, he's never beat anyone that's really good. And he had to wrestle his way to victory against Tszyu. Not hating on the guy, he's a very likable dude.. I meet him here in Vegas and he was an awesome person but that has nothing to do with boxing.

Mayweather didn't take **** away from Hatton.
Mayweather fought him undefeated but Hatton had to move up to fight him.
Pacquiao fought him at his weight class but with an L on his record.
To me, either win is just as good.

it would have been very difficult for anyone to have beaten Hatton on the night he fought Kostya.. He was a force of nature in that fight. He took so much damage from Kostya, and walked right through it.

But I think over time his punch resistance deteriorated. His style depended so much on having a good chin, and it worked at first, but eventually opponents, and damage over time, wore the man down.

The human body is not indestructable. And it doesn't remain at one level, or plateau. Some wounds don't even fully heal no matter how much time is given, or what appearances are. That's why its not ureasonable to say the man had a peak, and a decline, in his punch resistance.

Mayweather inflicted ALOT of damage on Hatton and stopped him for the first time ever. I'll leave it at that.

Hatton isnt really a force at the top level, Pac would have destroyed him if they have fought when Hatton was undefeated, Been undefeated sometimes just gives up a different kind of confidence thats all.

Prime Hatton would have been able to walk through more of Pac's shots. And thats putting things on the conservative side.

he clearly did not use any tactic whatsoever in the Pac fight. Hard to compare the Mayweather and Pac fights at he end of the day since Mayweather fights a strategic fight and even if his opponent is there to be hit/stopped, Pac stood his ground and battered Hatton.

that doesn't mean he would've beat him.
and also, that means Hatton was "shot" before he fought Mayweather as well then.. look at the shots he took in the previous fights before that one.

only because The fight lasted 10 rounds, compared to 2, it made
Hatton look more impressive against Mayweather compared Manny. That version of Hatton vs Manny wouldve likely ended in the same result

Mayweather will never get a KO in less than 8 rounds on a top ranked fighter, he's very patient and hardly takes any risks. He'd rather drag out the fight and play it safe, and win on points.. see JMM, odlh, judah, baldomir, etc

Accumulation of damage was bound to catch up with Hatton's style, so

                very true...

                but not AS "shot".

Well obviously Mayweather beat Hatton first so I'm going to have to say Mayweather beat the better version of Hatton

both mean a lot mayweahters meant more imo cause that was the fresher hatton imo period ... even tho it was the hatton in a higher weight class. both wins were good tho.

i dunno some points i can agree with and some not so much ... i dont think hatton really struggled with urango all that much. actually hatton tool alotta flush shots from urango without an issue. with collazo yes but it was more late in the fight it was close and collazo is a pretty solid ww. people act like that was a robbery when it was a close fight and collazo is never gonna lay down 4 no one so anyone especially a fighter like hatton would have probs with him cause he has good skill.

ya pbf beat him at 147lbs, but he was the 1st 2 do it and it was by kayo and after hattons long career of taken alotta shots and weight issues + that loss did take a lot outta him like kayos often do from fighters. so i disagree with u there ...

the lazcano fight in retrospect told us a lot more then the collazo or urango and pbf fight did, at that point we shoulda all known he really couldnt contend at the elite level anymore and that indeed his punch resistance was not the same due to pbf and other factors ...
