Why didnt Floyds dad didnt want him to fight a southpaw???

I was watching Floyd mayweather vs demarcus corley and the announcer mentioned how floyds dad called from prison saying never put him against a southpaw again???

I was like what the hell he has done great against them and never got in to trouble.

Is there a back story behind it at the time???

it was because of his 2nd pro fight where he went the distance with a southpaw and didn't look that good---his dad thought floyd struggled a little more with southpaws than conservative right hand fighters...floyd also got tagged by corley a few times in the fight---and with judah---and he even got hit by sharmba---floyd has adjusted to southpaws and knows how to adjust his punches also---like the lead right hand to the sloarplex--which he threw at sharmba to knock him out and he threw a nice right hook at corley---floyd has had some trouble with southpaws but not too much....he can fight any style fighter and dominate...

because the shoulder roll is less effective against a southpaw.....

          ^^^

Both are right. The shoulder roll doesn't work as well against a southpaw because of the different angle that the punches come from.

Reggie Sanders also made Floyd look pretty bad in his second fight. I didn't think either fighter really did enough to win the fight, but... I get a lot of **** for that.

I'll tell you this... the Sanders fight was closer than the De La Hoya fight IMO.

yup, floyds defensive stance doesnt work well against a southpaw, as he trys to shoulder roll, he'd be defending a straight right. But with a straight left, floyd usually gaurds with his right arm up, but normally for left hooks. Against a straight left, he'd have to dodge or get out of the way. It's muscle memory for floyd, he's probably not used to using the shoulder roll from his right shoulder, as his left foot is in front. He's just not used to fighting against a southpaw. Judah caught him good on a straight left.

Honestly a lot of guys have trouble with southpaws, even southpaws cuz they do everything ass backwards.

What normally feels intuitive, you have to think against a southpaw.

You have a power hand coming at you at a weird angle you don't expect much from.

Some guys are great at it, but for most, it's hard and awkward.
