LAS VEGAS--He won’t be sending out engraved, embossed invitations to them but promoter Bob Arum revealed to me that he will have an Open Door policy at the media center during Miguel Cotto-Manny Pacquiao Fight Week at the MGM Grand.
Who knew the top honcho of Top Rank, who promotes both the Pinoy Idol and the Boricua ****er, was so cordial and warm?
“If Floyd Mayweather wants to come to the media center, fine,” Arum said. “If Shane Mosley wants to come there to talk to the media, fine. I don’t need to block these fighters if they care to do that.
“I never understood why some promoters do that. All Mayweather or Mosley can do is talk about my big fight, my promotion and enhance it really. They would be talking about wanting to fight the winner of the fight.
“So why should I want to prevent that? That would be idiotic, just ******. They want to come, let them come on Friday, the day of the weigh in, they can speak to the press because I don’t care if they do or they don’t.”
That’s Uncle Bob with his new Good Neighbor policy.
Arum also said there is no point in talking to handlers of Mayweather or Mosley until Miguel and Manny settle their business in the ring.
“What’s the point? When we have a winner in this fight, we’ll be looking at fights for both Miguel and Manny. It would just be academic talking now.”
Arum said he envisions the winner of this fight fighting again in either March or May.
“Look, if this is a great fight which it could be, maybe we’ll want to have a rematch.”
