Boxing expert:In the end Pacquiao maybe bigger than Ali!

Aren't you guys taking his quote out of context? He said that Pacquiao is the equivalent of Ali for OUR GENERATION, in which i disagree---not yet, maybe more big fights and some more exposure. I blame TC for a very flamebait inducing title. Dude you must work at marketing if you can twist these girls panties.Comment

there you are.... then, will you give marley the benefit of the doubt as an expert in boxing? coz this guy has been around since the time of ali.....Comment

Ya and I should agree with him because hes older??? Ya we should all agree with Teddy Atlas ALL THE TIME, since he been talking about Boxing for decades......
We all got opinions, why dont you explain your own opinion.
Anyways when I posted my first comment, It was stated to "In the end Pacquiao maybe bigger than Ali!" which the person never even stated just the topic starter >.<Last edited by PinoyZoi; 11-09-2009, 12:58 AM.Comment

That's a load of bull. I applaud Ali for standing up for his beliefs. Which is way too rare in modern society, but get real bro. Ali was just a fighter. The only reason Ali was ever involved with politics and had a cultural impact was because he was the heavyweight champion of the world and was a PUPPET FOR THE NATION OF ISLAM. They played Ali for a fool for the majority of his career.Disagree.
Ali fought in one of the best decades of boxing (60's and 70's), when the sport was popular AROUND THE WORLD.
Not only in sport, but he was also involved in politics, was against the war in Vietnam, segregation and racism, he became a cultural impact around the world because of his participation in anti-war rallies and anti-segregation protests.
Pacquiao has influenced his people to get into boxing as an escape of poverty in the phillipines, but anything else? no, Ali has accomplished WAY more and it's BIGGER than Pac around the world.
Pacquiao hasnt just influenced a few kids to take up gloves....he's rebuilt entire neighborhoods in a 3rd world country out of his own pocket. He's built hospitals, schools, implemented irrigation, plumbing, electricity, running water and other things we take forgranted here into places in the philippines that never had simple modern conveniences going into the 21st century. If Pacquiao had been the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world.....Pacquiao's influence would be much greater in retrospect compared to Ali.Comment

Key phrase here is" in the end." Right now Ali is much more widely recognized than Pacquiao even by non boxing fans. Time may change that, but it's doubtful.Comment

You can walk down any street, in any City, in any Country in the World ; you mention the name "Muhammad Ali", and the people there will recognize that name.
That doesn't happen with Pacquiao's name, unless you're walking down the streets of Manila. And I'd wager a bet that Ali is even more popular than Pacquiao there. What with the role he played in getting big fights signed in other Countries like the Philippines and Africa.Comment

Like i said...Ali got played hard by the nation of islam. He did great standing up for his beliefs.....but his exploits outside of the ring have been greatly exaggerated because of his stature IN the ring.Comment

Agreed.
I walk a very fine line when it comes to Ali.
In the ring, I have nothing but the greatest respect for the man.
Outside the ring, I also have a great deal of respect for him when it comes to issues like his courage standing up against the draft, and the peace keeping efforts he's taken on later in life.
But that also makes me wonder if he's not trying to make up for what a nasty, and vicious person he was during his youth. The way he treated his wives, the way he treated guys like Frazier and Terrell, and the pro-segregation **** he spoke about.
I can't respect any of that, and it taints my overall view of him.Comment
