Inside look on both camps, from the eyes of a Boricua fan

I found this somewhere, seems to be a good read from a fan's perspective of both camps!

Hey guys! What's up, for the last two days I was at both Cotto's and Pacquiao's media workouts here in Los Angeles.

I was able to get in through some trickery. A friend of mine made me a fake media badge and id and I was able to get in to both open press media workouts!

I do have pictures that I took. I used my friends camera. But I do not have a computer to post them. I have to wait until Saturday to go to my friends house or someone PM me and I can e-mail the pics and maybe someone can help me post them.

Well it was awesome! I got to gauge both fighters and get a feel for the fight.

First I would like to say that Miguel Cotto is in tremendous shape. I felt alittle bit more relaxed when I saw him and how fit he was, so I'm not as afraid as before regarding the 145lbs, though I'm still alittle worried, but not as much.

Miguel was all business with a stone cold look while excercising. One very interesting observation I made along with some other media members is that Cotto hits harder than Shawn Porter. Even as Cotto is lowering his weight and looked about 149lbs to 150lbs, his shots when he hit the mitts were very hard and loud shots. When Cotto puts the weight back on, those shots are going to be even stronger and harder.

In contrast to where at the Wild Card we saw Shawn Porter hit the mitts twice. Once with his father and second with Roach. And yeah he's alittle bigger than Cotto and alittle faster but his shots when he hit the mitts were not as hard as Cotto's. He doesn't seem to get enough leverage on his punches to have a hard powerful thudding impact, maybe he has too much muscle on his 5' 7" frame to hit hard. I don't think Shawn Porter is going to be a superstar, I felt like telling him, dude Cotto hits harder than you. But no, I was going to be nice. I actually felt bad for Porter, I wonder what will happen when he starts fighting good quality opponents. I and many of the media spoke about this. Needless to say that I was plesantly surprised.

With Manny Pacquiao's shots on the mitts, they sounded like Cotto's shots. After watching Manny in person I can honestly say, WOW! This guy is truly something. He is dynamic and seems like a freak of nature. He does hit hard guys! But it sounded just like Cotto's shots, the only thing the shots were coming in faster than Cotto's.

Manny right now is pretty much close to his fighting weight and Cotto is going to put on more weight so those shots I heard that Cotto threw are going to be alot harder come fight night.

Make no mistake about it, Manny does have the power to hurt Cotto, but Cotto in turn likewise has the power to hurt Pacquiao and again guys Cotto will be hitting alot harder on fight night once he rehydrates.

Manny Pacquiao's footspeed and moves with his legs and feet are underrated. This guy was like a mouse running around the ring and Freddie was trying to catch him. Of course Freddie is an old man now, but he's actually in pretty good shape for an old guy.

Let me tell you guys first about Cotto's media day at the pound 4 pound gym. When I walked in first guy I saw was Bob Arum. I told Bob hi and that I enjoy his fights and his fighters. He told me Thank You, Thank You.

There were lots of different media personalities there like Larry Merchant, he was always busy though. Doug Fischer and Steve Kim from Maxboxing, David Avila from the sweet science and Karyn Bryant from Showtime, along with about 3 Filipino media heads.

I met all of Cotto's team. I introduced myself to Miguel Cotto Sr., I told him that I am one of the very few Puerto Ricans out here representing Cotto and Puerto Ricans. Cotto, Sr. smiled and told me in spanish, "Well, now you have more Puerto Ricans here to support with you." He was cool! I spoke with Phil Landman and also with Joe Santiago. All of these guys were cool! I met Cotto's mother Juana as well, she was nice.

When I went to say Hi to Bryan Perez he shrugged me off and told me, "yeah, yeah." Like he was too good to talk to anyone. Simply put, The guy was an *******!!!

I thought maybe he was just annoyed at something for that moment, but no. Other media guys told me the same thing that he was an ******* and very rude!

Perez has nothing on Buboy Fernandez. Buboy is cool! I hope Buboy kick's his ass!!! LOL!

Miguel Cotto himself was in the ring warming up, he was in the ring the constant time and no one could get to him. After his workout Cotto came outside of the ring for interviews. This is where most of my pictures were taken. I also have a picture with Miguel Cotto Sr. and the Tecate girl with the big knockers!

After the interviewing Cotto headed back to the showers then came out and was swarmed by media for him to sign stuff. I had a boxing glove but couldn't get to him. Cotto and his team became angry because of the pushing and shoving everyone was doing so he signed a few things then stopped signing and went to the front of the gym inside the gym clothes shop. There some fans were waiting outside to try to get signings. I spoke with cutman Joe Chavez at this time. He is a nice man, cool guy!

Mario Lopez then walked in to meet Cotto. Then a bunch of us went to the back exit of the gym as people realized Cotto wasn't coming out of the front.

Alittle bit later Cotto came out the back and these kids that had gloves and stuff were overly aggressive in wanting to get items signed. One hit Cotto in the face accidentally with a boxing glove that he wanted signed and Bob Arum got knocked down to the floor. Arum got up cursing, "What the **** is going on here." Where the hell is security." LOL!

Two fans started arguing about pushing. And while this was going on Team Cotto was trying to get in the suv to leave. Miguel Cotto Sr. looked like a rat trying to get into a small hole the way he was trying to push his way through the crowd and get in the car. LOL!

But they all got in and left and that was the end of Cotto's media workout.

For Pacquiao's all the media walked in together. I had my fake press badge with me and was able to get in. Pretty much the same people were there from the day before. Dough Fischer but not Steve Kim. Karyn Bryant from Showtime was there, she looks good, has a nice body and nice rear and when she kneeled down to get some equipment from her bag, her nice black Victoria Secret thong came flashing out. I was like Whoo!! Damn!

Larry Merchant was not at this media workout. Mario Lopez came in again and also Mickey Rourke came in. Now actually Mickey Rourke thinks that this fight is a 50/50 fight and mind you this is Freddie Roach's best friend. (Supposedly)

Manny Pacquiao took a long time to get to Wildcard, so in the meantime some boxers that were there, were hitting the bags and doing mitt work in the ring. This is where we got to observe Shawn Porter hitting the mitts. He didn't look that impressive. Some Light Heavyweight prospect came in the ring and was hitting the mitts and he had cracking powerful punches, way more than Cotto or Pacquiao. But Shawn Porter seemed not to hit as hard as I thought he would.

Anyway Pacquiao showed up and was warming up in the ring. I actually like the set up at Cotto's media workout becuse the gym was alittle bit bigger and there were chairs for the media to sit right in front of the ring. At Wildcard all the media was up on the ring apron and you couldn't see Manny too much. I had to stand on this table that alot of people were standing on in front of the ring.

I saw Manny hit the mitts with Roach, and I was very impressed with Pacquiaos moves, speed and power behind the punches. I was also very impressed with Cotto's workout. Cotto's was a harder workout than Manny's. But I believe that Pac's team wants him to relax alittle and not overtrain. But both guys are in tremendous shape!

After what I saw my analysis is that this is going to be a tough fight for Cotto, alittle bit more than I originally thought. But at the same token, it is also going to be a difficult fight for Pacquiao, Cotto looked in really good shape! He looks ready! They both do!

Cotto has to stay on his stick and stay disciplined and be persistent. I know Cotto has a plan A and plan B. And it's a good thing that Cotto is versatile, because he's going to need his versatility against Pacquiao.

Cotto definitely has all the tools to beat Pacquiao, he just has to be smart about it and be persistent.

Pacquiao will do what he always does, he's going to go in and out and use his feet and movement to create his awkward angles. Cotto needs to time this, he needs to time Manny. Question is how will Manny deal with Cotto's shots??

Manny can hurt Cotto but it has to be with an accumilation of shots to take Cotto out. This fight is going to be really Good guys!!

There's no way in hell that any human being on this planet should miss this fight!!!

Well, before I got to Pacquiao's media workout I was told that they had stricter rules and I thought I could not get in. But to my surprise and delight I got in to Pac's workout too.

Since I was almost certain I wouldn't get in, I did not have equipment. But not to worry I have a pic of Manny from Halloween.

I want to post these pictures guys, like I said I have to go to my friends house Saturday, But if anyone can help me post it earlier. I have the pics on my e-mail. Is it possible to send it to one of you and you post it??

    My e-mail address is jlab226@yahoo.com

    Let me know , peace!

    Peace Cotto and Pacfans!

Wow this get me hyped even more. Thanks. I like that assessment. IMO, he is unbiased and he also gave out his reasons and opinions of things.

What is interesting is the mitts work of both sound the same but faster for pac and cotto should get stronger at his fighting weight. Hmmm. And porter's mitts work in unimpressive. Pac's chin is now more of ? than ever.

Interesting read. Nice to hear from a fans perspective. Question about Porter though. From your perspective and oppinion on seeing him hit the mitts who would his speed compare to?

Also how big is he (hard to really tell with boxers due to no common baseline) would you say he is considerably bigger than Cotto or just a bit thicker or something else?

Also is that really Porter's Dad or did Mayweather send 50 cents in disguise to infiltrate Pac's camp?????

That's Fi'ty Cents disguised as Porter's dad, and the sound of the mitts doesn't really tell anything, I've seen videos out there of a 5 year old doing the mitts with a thundering sound...

this guy doesn't even know what he's talking about, at least when it comes to dehydrating. you don't dehydrate that long before weigh ins. you're training at the weight you come in at fight night, and dehydrate shortly before weigh ins. otherwise you'd die training.

He was just guessing that Cotto is about 149-150ish in his eyes, and Cotto could be in the low 150s, which is about right when the fight is just 6 days away. You put too much emphasis about dehydration/rehydration, and everybody here knows you're in the medical field...
