"IT" has a lot to do with how your personality & fighting style is projected on screen & in boxing terms how you fight.

You dont decide if you have "IT". The people do.

Roberto Duran barely spoke english & im pretty sure he was no george lopez in the comedy department, but he had "IT" to go along with his killer instinct. Just the way he looked, the way he fought, he had "IT"

    He made compelling television.

Erik Morales & Marco Antonio Barerra had "IT." Their animosity towards each other & their battles gave them that "IT" quality.
Floyd has the "IT" factor but he does not fight like he has "IT"

Personality and boxing are two different things completely.

Some people are born with nothing and are hungry.

Cotto to me has the "IT" factor in the ring. His personality outside is dead though.

I agree that most top level boxers are arrogant and good with TV interviews and having fun with huge crowds. Their job is to perform. BUT it doesn't always apply to everyone you know.

Put Dawson in with someone who he can stun and they can't stun him, he will look like a KO artist. Unfortunately when it comes to this "IT", his boxing skills and brain don't win him awards, but fortunately for him, he still won.

i like dawson as a boxer...he has the fundamentels pretty much figured out...good jab nice footwork an goes to the body at times..but he just seems to lack the star quality needed

he isnt a natural finisher and in 48rounds with tarver an johnson has never looked like making a statement an geting them out of there

You dont even have to knock somebody out. Just dominate them & look good doing it.

Chad who i think should be in the top 10 p4p, vs 2 boxers in their 40s couldnt do it.

CHad Dawson based on his performance may never be a star.

If u get booed by ur own people at ur own backyard... then thats about all the popularity ul ever get.

In a way, he's like Pernell Whitaker. He puts up a very good performance but doesn't get the knockout.

              not quite.

pernell dominates without the knockout. Its clear. Chad wins without the knockout but underwhelming. I probably saw maybe 5 or 6 clean punches from chad. Never had glenn hurt at any point.

When was the last time someone hurt Glen Johnson in a fight?
