I think that what a lot of people have done is looked at Valuev against Holyfield and thought to themselves, "Valuev Sucks".
This is a bit of an insult to Holyfield really. If you consider the question, at this stage of his career, what is Holyfield.
What he is is a fighter with one of the best chins in boxing, great defense, amazing stamina, good footwork and a wealth of experience. He has lost some movement, power and reflexes. Against Valuev, who is slow Holyfield didn't really need the skills he had lost.
If you compare David Haye on the other hand, you have a very different fighter to Holyfield.
Haye has very good hand speed, good power and a will to fight.
This makes him a formidable fighter for sure, but if you look at what Haye lacks, the fight becomes a lot closer than some people think.
Haye Lacks: Defense, Stamina, Experience, Size, Footwork and Chin.
Valuev Lacks: Footwork, Speed, Power (to an extent)
now if you compare the two fighters I think valuev has the clear advantage.
Haye can win this fight, if he has managed to improve BOTH his defense and footwork, then he will have a very good chance. But that is a big if. I do not feel that Haye's biggest attribute, his power will play that much of a part against the difficult to reach, hard to hurt Valuev.
Prediction: Haye starts strong, peppering Valuev's gloves with shots, but getting caught plenty with the jab for his troubles, Valuev slowly breaks the Hayemaker down and drops him in the 7th for the 10 count.
