Ring size issue aside I think DeLaHoya was still right in his conclusion that Arum is favoring Pacquiao. There are, in his mind, bigger paydays ahead for Pac over Cotto but I think he has written Cotto off prematurely and its working to fuel Cotto's fire. Pac is a great lightweight that is moving up for money and when you chase money that way, in spite of your natural limitations, you get burned. Needless to say Cotto only extended with Arum because Arum held leverage with this fight but if he beats Pacquiao he should look to settle with Arum to break contract and go after a Mayweather payday cause he won't get it while with Arum. and he shouldn't give Arum another big payday by way of his hard work he just doesn't deserve it.
Ok, so you won the battle of the ringsize comment. BUT, we all know who Arum is favoring to win the fight. 50,000 stadium to host Pac-Floyd nxt year? That sounds like a lot of money to be made for everyone. I highly doubt he's got plans to put Cotto in that stadium...
That's because he knows damned well that it would be very toughj to get Mr. "Safety First" Mayweather to agree to fight Cotto, the more so if he beats Manny P. impressively.
As a promoter of both fighters, he has to show impartiality to each, with NO favouritism.
Tpo imply otherwise is a sleazy slur.
Manny is better box office because he's always smiling, seems to give the impression that he's game to fight anyone up to heavyweight (although the Roach always makes sure to have an "edge" and the opponents are carefully selected), is suitably humble, and elicits admiration as "the little guy" going up againt a bigger guy, who only wants to give boxing fans a good show. Gives the impression he doesn't care about the money etc.etc. a very newsworthy subject.
For whatever reason, Manny P. will sell more PPV's, etc than Cotto, therefore Bob Arum, who has made both these guys multi-millionaires, as a first class business man, tries to have a forecast plan, for "down-the-road". Oscar sometimes shows signs of jealousy.
Incidentally, with Arum's "expletives", I wonder will he get a suspension from the WBC???
