  • Nice boxers???

in the last Ring Magazine they talk about
how he is a great person (not boxer)
and how he has a kid with Hydrocephalus (wather in the brain)
carry his belt to the ring.
thats cool of him, do you guys know any other boxer
    who does somethign alike that,
like help the needy or such ???
Ricky gets my respect just for doing so

Roy Jones to me is a walking contradiction of sorts. I hate him as a fighter, he wasted his immense talents on Otis Grant and Bryant Brannon, didn't fight any credible opponents for 10 years, and didn't believe in exciting fights. But as a person and announcer, he is among my favorites. I remember watching a montage HBO did for him to build up one of his fights, and it showed how much of a good person he is, and how he is with his sons and it made me like him as a person. It might not seem like much, but a man who sticks around and is a good father means something, believe me. He is an entertaining and knowledgeable announcer, and is rather charming sometimes. He is very professional and adds a good balance between the contrasting styles of Larry Merchant and Jim Lampley. Roy Jones is my favorite person in the sport, but my least liked fighter. Vernon Forrest is a similar story with me.

Thomas Hearns is a very nice guy in real life...

James Toney is a nice guy in real life (or at least he was 10 years ago)

Vitali Klitschko seems like he'd be a very pleasant person

I hear Morales is a nice guy...he's very family oriented

Barrera seems like he'd be a good father

Chris Eubank is a nice guy from what I've heard

Vernon Forrest seems like he'd be a good guy

I think roy jones is a great person. I think larry holmes said it best 'don't get fooled by all this RJ crap...that's for the cameras.Roy's one of the nicest guys i've met.' Roy has devoteed a lot to young and up comming boxers, paid tribute to geralld (when nobody else would), keeps strong ties with his kids, has contributed so much to the city of pensecola...

i think it's lame and immature people get turned off by his on-screen ****iness...people should know the man before they judge him.

Most of the fighters that I know are really nice and good people. Theres a stereotypical view that the general public has of fighters, a crooked nosed thug always pushin' people. The general public, as usual, doesnt know boxing or boxers. Greg Wright opened a center that helps autistic children learn to cope and improve skills. Greg is an A+ type of person, one of the better ones that you will find in any profession.........Rockin'

The Klitschko Brothers are really good guys. Vitali is one of the nicest and most respectful fighters in the sport, his brother as well. They are class acts, in the day and age of people preferring "crass" fighters. They have never had anything but respectful things to say about their challengers. And that quote Torino has in his sig, says it all about Vitali. Him "defending his title" like a champion promise etc.

I gotta agree with Rockin. I've been doing my routine workout at Glesons and we have a lot of professionals and most of them are really good people. guys like Wayne Braithwaite are not ashamed to hold the door for you and shake your hand. Even Judah most of the times ats like a really decent person. i also noticed that fighters are some of the most respectful athletes that I have ever known. Definately more respectful than H.S and college athletes. Not that I have anything against them just a little observation I made a while ago when I just started boxing.
