Bobby Manila's Keys To Success: How can Manny beat Cotto.

    Bobby Manila's Keys To Success
    How Can Manny Beat Cotto

    1. Cotto's defensive lateral movement makes him tire, yet he continues to use it. His trainer also praises that defensive tactic. He just moves on and on and on to the sides, not dancing and firing punches. He suddenly stops, and then he throws even more.

What Manny needs to do: Hurt him just one time. If he does, chances are he can win one more round just by making Cotto go into "survival mode". If Cotto goes into "survival mode", Manny can win that round on punch output alone. This also makes Cotto tire even more, so Manny has greater chances on winning the late rounds.

    2. Cotto has a tendency to expose his chin. When a untalented boxer as Margarito connects 3 straight uppercuts in succesion against you, you know there is something wrong. Still, he doesn't correct this. Judah rocked him with uppercuts also.

What Manny needs to do: In and out, like in the De la Hoya fight, but this time do a right jab, left uppercut, out. Then a single left straight, out. Then right hook to the body, left uppercut, out. He can mix this all night long, and chances are he will find the target most of the time.

    3. Cotto fades, but doesn't makes the adjustments to improve his stamina. Look at the Gómez fight, when he was fighting a bum, at his breathing in the corner. He was tired. He faded against Margarito. Also against Clottey.

Manny needs to do: Make Cotto chase you for the first 8-9 rounds. Just fire in and out combos, and don't ever go into a flat foot exchange. Don't let Cotto use his hooks while he is flat footed. That will take a lot of power out of him. Keep him chasing you, uncomfortable, and try to win those rounds with the in/out and ocassional pot shot.

    4. "Machismo", as in he won't hold. Holding is part of boxing. Ask Hopkins, ask Shane, ask Evander. Holding makes even guys who have not much talent (as John Ruiz) into world champions. Yet Cotto won't hold because "it's not my style".

Manny needs to do: When tired, go in with a wild left hook and hold. Just the holding will give Miguel a false sense of security, which can always pave the way for the uppercuts. Cotto sees holding as a sign of weakness: Exploit this flaw.

    5. Predictable. Cotto is NOT ONE DIMENSIONAL, but is predictable. He flicks on/off his switches. You easily know when Cotto is on Terminator Mode, Survival Mode, Boxer Mode, Showoff Mode, Fading Mode. He doesn't know how to hide his intentions. If you have Cotto hurt, you KNOW he is hurt. If Cotto is looking to knock you out, you KNOW he wants to do it. If Cotto is looking to humiliate you, you KNOW. But more importantly, you know how he will do it.

Manny needs to do: Play with his mind so that he doesn't go into boxer mode. If Miguel goes into boxer mode, Pacquiao's chances are zero. Pacquiao has to lure him into Terminator mode (which ROACH seems to have already done; good work Roach), make it an even fight until the 8th-9th round, then push Cotto just one time into Survival Mode. He will fade because of his dumb "lateral movement strategy", then Manny can win the last rounds - without EVER engaging in a full frontal assault -, and can then have a UD.

    That is all.

(I think Cotto will completely destroy Manny, because all it takes is just one frontal exchange between the two for Manny to taste the canvas).

Manny should throw flurries(1-2-3) and get out. Stick and move, keep the fight in the center of the ring and stay out of range in order to avoid Cotto's body punches. He needs also to keep a high guard and not attack Cotto's body.
Manny needs to box thinking about speed and never throw less or more than 2 or 3 punches.

Pacquiao takes it to Cotto and hurts him. It's ridiculous how people think Cotto has a Margarito chin. Ridiculous.

Completely agree. When I said a single left in the in/out I just put it so that Manny isn't predictable.

And I forgot how important was for Manny to keep the fight in the center of the ring. A corner for Manny = Cotto throwing hooks flat footed. Not good for Manny at all.

            I'm sure we'll see come November 14.

Other than a otherwordly jumping, superman, sci-fi. left hook to the temple by Pacquiao, I don't see how he can hurt Cotto. A tired, faded Cotto, could be bothered and could go into "Survival Mode".

Of course, if you are right you can come then and tell me "I told you so".
