Top Ten Heavyweights of All Time

I have gotten in arguments about who are the top 10 havyweights of all time with many of my friends. Some include Mike Tyson, some dont, it depends on the person i guess. So to everyone hear who are your top 10 heavyweights of all time? My list is a lot of throw back fighters.

    1.Muhammed Ali
    2.Rocky Marciano
    (NO ORDER)
    3.Joe Louis
    4.Jack Dempsey
    5.Jack Johnson
    6.Ken Norton
    7.Sonny Liston
    8.Joe Frazier
    9.Joe Walcott
    10.George Foreman

Not 100% on it but its a start. I give Tyson props but never was a big fan and consider him 3rd best of his generation (Holyfield *prime*, and Lewis)

This changes on an almost weekly basis. I indicate whether my stance on their rating is derived more from accomplishments or all around fighting ability and how well they would stack up to the others.

      1. Joe Louis (both)

      2. Muhammad Ali (both)

      3. Jack Dempsey (ability)

      4. Rocky Marciano (both)

      5. George Foreman (both)

      6. Larry Holmes (both)

      7. Sonny Liston (ability)

      8. Jack Johnson (accomplishments)

      9. John L. Sullivan (accomplishments) {You may question this but first remember that if it weren't for Sullivan there would be no big gate fights or PPV matches. Boxing very well may have remained a backwater, illegal sport.}

      10.Jim Jeffries (ability)

        4. Dempsey

        10. Evander Holyfield

would be my pics. I expect to see some angry criticism I suppose. Rocky Marciano was overrated to the max IMO. That is why I do not think he belongs on the list. I think Evander is a top 10 heavyweight of all time as well. Lennox Lewis also.

Its a good top 10 i guess. I am not going to say blahblah and flame you. But Rocky maricano being overrated. Well is it what you hear or what you really know. Alot of fans hear by word of mouth. Have you ever seen the rock fight more then one time?

I guess it you heard about him by word of mouth.

That must be the fourth time I list my Top 10 here on Boxingscene and everytime it changes a little. It's really hard to compare these great fighters. If I'd be asked again tomorrow places 4-10 might change.

Was he put in a bad era yes,That is not his fault what you want a list ok no problem. Alot of people over look this Rocky Maricano was a small heavy weight, this was a big factor in the rocks career. You also say a tired joe louis, This may also be the case but he wasnt washed up or shot but he was out of his prime. You cant forget that joe louis was favoured over the rock.

Ok lets goto walcott was the damn champion of the world, he also fought and beat Ezzard twice before fighting Rocky. When you are champ you are at you're best. yes i understand it was 23 years after walcott started his carrer! Rock took the shot and came out the champion. Archie moore was he out of his prime/washed up or shot? Probably not if you look at his performances after geting knocked out in the 9th round. But i am not a huge fan of the rock but you must put him in the top 10. I would write some more but i have to go again. I am not trying to hate on you man.

              1.joe louis
              2.Ezzard 1&2
              3.Walcott 1&2
              4.Archie Moore.

I can't beleive so many have rocky over foreman, rocky would not last 3 rounds with foreman in the 70's or 90's

Really people favor that. I would have to say the raw power foreman had would probably destroy rock. He would be much much smaller so there is no chance of rope doping. Even ali took a punishment siting against the ropes. depending how fast foreman came out.Foreman was def one powerfull MOFO.
