It used to be that way, but from what I understand it was changed for safety reasons. Fighters drained themselves to make weight, then fought on the same day, putting them at higher risk for brain damage since there's not as much fluid around their brain to cushion against blows to the head.

Day-before weigh ins give them a chance to recover and rehydrate before taking the pounding...pause.

I mean on one hand people say that Cotto hasnt allowed himself to be weighed in since 2007. So how do we know what Cotto's official weight has been on fight night? We dont, it just like people saying Margarito cheated vs Cotto, is it possible?....yes...Do we have proof?....No!....DO we think Cotto maybe came in on fight night in every fight since 2007 at 154 or 160?....Yes?....Is there proof?.....NO!

The Pacquiao fans try to spin this into a Mayweather thing.......

Just to chime in on this topic and the BS that is ruining Boxing as a legitimate sport.

IMHO - A WW fight should be fought at or within the WW limits. This includes FIGHTNIGHT!!!!!

There is no way anyone can tell me that a WW climbing into the ring on fightnight weighing 16+ pounds over the limit is legal. This is total and complete disregard for the weight limits and its BS.


A WW is 141 - 147lbs ...... NOT 141 - 160+lbs. WTF is that??????

This is more the reason to have fightnight weights recorded officially to eliminate this BS that is giving some fighters, who are able to balloon up over night the obvious advantgage they get.

Cotto {Even though I'm a fan of his}, Clottey and a few others should be fighting at a heavier weight class ... because they are clearly sweating down in a major way to make WW.
