Defiant Chad Dawson Prepared To Prove a Point

By Lyle Fitzsimmons - Chad Dawson has heard every word.

How Glen Johnson deserved to win their first fight. How HBO forced him into accepting a rematch. And how Johnson – who was already within a few pounds of fight weight a month ago – is ready to finish this weekend in Hartford a job he claims to have started last year in Tampa.

Dawson hears it all. And for those who buy into it, he has one simple declaration:

    “See you on Saturday night.”

“At this point, Glen Johnson sounds like he’s looking for excuses, and looking for ways to pump himself up,” Dawson said Monday, upon returning from a seven-week training camp in Las Vegas. “And that’s all it is, a lot of talk. But it doesn’t mean anything.”

As for the specific points Johnson and others have made, the unbeaten 27-year-old’s counters are just as precise, coming with the same slightly amused annoyance that marked replies prior to his last 40-something title-bout rematch – six months ago against Antonio Tarver.

Dawson won a unanimous nod over Tarver in their first bout in 2008 and repeated the feat in May. [details]

Dawson is gonna box and run all night, he knows he dont have the power to keep Johnson off him...I call Dawson by UD

If Dawson wants to mae a impression he will have to go out of character and and drop or KO Johnson while dominating the fight!!!

Dawson will win clearly this time, Johnson just closed strong the first time, I would love to see him against B-Hop after Johnson.

I'll still give him credit for beatin Glen, as I think he will. But not as much as I would had he rematched him right away. Glen has clearly lost a step or 2 since then. Still respect him for doin it up tho.

I thought way too many of Dawson's punches were deflected by Glenn's guard for me to give Chad the win. But I think Chad's improved a bit since then and that fight was close enough that I don't see an almost 41 year old Johnson having the activity needed to win. Glad to see him get the rematch though, he deserved it, two fights and over a year ago, but he deserves it nonetheless.

how is that out of character? That's exactly what he did to the current cruiserweight champion Tomasz Adamek when he was a light heavyweight titlist. Dawson didn't do as good against Tarver in the rematch so it's not a given that Dawson will walk over Johnson this time. Thing is though, Tarver is a much smarter fighter than Glencoffe and is better at adjustments. I was ringside for the first fight and had it 7-5 for Dawson, almost the entire press corp did. Only one guy didn't and he called me racist for going for Dawson, that made no sense to me. Anyways, I'm taking a determined Dawson in this one, he wants the big fights and he wants to be known as the best; it drives him. He'll win by UD or if given the chance a late TKO.

Very excited for Dawson to beat Johnson again. He definitely beat Johnson the first time, I have a feeling this one will be a more convincing win for Dawson.
