    question re: weight classes

Can anyone explain this to me please, because I can't get my head round it, and from what I do understand its a joke:

Why do the WBC and WBA have the limit between 148-154 called Super Welterweight yet the WBO and IBF have it as Junior Middleweight?

Also I notice that WBO class Crusierweight as Junior Heavyweight, then there are a few others.

Can anyone shed some light please?

My only guess is that Super sounds better than Junior. What sounds better in terms of prestige, the Junior Welterweight champion or the Super Lightweight champion?

Oh and I believe "Junior" was the original, "Super" was later.

the WBC/WBA have it as Super Welter, the WBO/IBF have it as Junior Middle, and Boxrec have it as Light Middleweight - all for the same weight limit.

                is this for real mate?

if it is then its a damned disgrace.

Was trying to find answers online last night then finally gave up and had to ask.

Actually looking on some info online, it seems "Light" was the original. "Junior" and "Super" must've come on later.

is there any indication as to why these different organisations have different weight class names?

I know the WBC and WBA are the two oldest of the other two but it strikes me as odd.
