When We Were Kings is a documentary so it shouldn't compete with other features.

Haven't seen Million Dollar Baby yet.

I think I would rank On the Waterfront #1 and Pulp Fiction #2, since no one said how much of the plot should revolve around boxing. Do these count as "boxing" movies?

Anyway, a top 5 to go along with other lists:

    1. Raging Bull (1980)
    2. Rocky (1976)
    3. The Great White Hype (1996)
    4. The Milky Way (1936)
    5. Rocky II (1979)

Honorable mention to the silly comedy The Prize Fighter (1979)

I watched Raging Bull about 2 years ago and I am a huge fan of De Niro and Pesci but I just couldnt get into that movie. I recently bought it a short while back though so hopefully I will enjoy it better.

On The Waterfront is an incredible movie; anyone seen it? There's no actual in-ring action, so I don't imagine the person starting this thread had it in mind...

Another decent movie was set in South Africa and called The Power of One. It's worth a dollar rental...

I liked Rocky 3, cause it had Eye of the Tiger as a theme song. Most of the big things happened, with Micky dying and Adrian coming out of her shell, Rocky losing, redefining his fighting style, Apollo Creed taking over. Rocky 2 and 4 are actually my least favorite, just because I feel like nothing happens. i didn't see V cause of all the bad hype, but I'm still interested.

I was not a believer that Will Smith could play Ali. But that proved me wrong as hell. He looked like him, talked like him, and played the role to a T. I was thorougly amazed, and I believe that was the second best portrayal of a boxer that I have seen, next to Deniro's performance as Jake Lamotta.

Top notch performances from Smith, Jamie Foxx, and Jon Voight, but still a too-long, by-the-numbers, TV Movie of the week that tried to tackle too much and failed at endearing Ali to the crowd who wasn't already familiar with him...

Things I was dissapointed with about Ali:

1.) The ending occured after the "Rumble in the Jungle"
2.) Slow motion scenes accompanied with music were too long; not enough action
3.) Movie plot seemed to only follow a "section" of Ali's career.

                Things I thought were cool:

1.) Toney's portrayal of Joe Frazier
                2.) Foxx's portrayal of Bundini
3.) Voight's portrayal of Howard Cosell

Forementioned in previous posts of course, but
I am sure I left things out. But that movie was good overall.
Ironic, Toney portrayed a "silent type". LOL.

I really wasn't all that high on Million doller Baby, it had some good acting but the script was crap.

Like a lot of people my favorite boxing movies are Raging Bull, Great White Hype, Rocky 1 and When We Were Kings.

I thought i was the only one who thought that movie was decent, it has alot of other issues other than boxing but is quite a good watch in my opinion.
