Just watched Arthur Abraham vs. Jermain Taylor in all it's 720p glory in the first fight of stage 1...To be honest, I don't keep up much with the weight classes above welterweight because it seems the higher weight classes don't have fighters that are "big draws"...But after watching Abraham-Taylor, then reviewing how the Super Six will be laid out with the multiple main event fights without the BORING undercard, it makes it a very intriguing event that has been put together...Maybe the fact that it is an international affair...While watching Taylor-Abraham, it reminded me of the movie Rocky...Rocky goin' over to Russia to face Drago...
Which got me thinking about the feasibility, marketability, etc. if an event such as this was to come about in a division full of talent...Just came up with:
The Super Six World Boxing Classic - Welterweight Division
"Sugar" Shane Mosley
Miguel Cotto
Floyd "Money" Mayweather
Paul "The Punisher" Williams
Antonio Margarito
6th spot open for multiple options:
Alt. 1: Joshua Clottey
Alt. 2: Andre Berto
Alt. 3: Manny Pacquiao (But there would be alot of issues with his participation in such an event...Catchweights, the fact that Paul Williams & Margarito are involved which are behemoths compared to Pacman, etc...)
The matchups would be very intriguing and would truly make the winner a LEGEND in the welterweight division. The only issues would be that SSM would be gettin' up there in age, Miguel Cotto could possibly be "damaged goods" after the Pacquiao fight and of course all analysts & boxing insiders believe Margarito took a piece of Cotto after their war, Antonio Margarito would have to be cleared by the Boxing Commision and re-instated, Paul Williams may have trouble making weight, and "Money" Mayweather may have issues with joining the event because all of the fighters included are fighters he "ducked" in the past. But in fairness, SSM ducked "Money" Mayweather in the past. In all honesty, if "Money" Mayweather got through this gauntlet without a blemish, he would definitely get the respect from the boxing community & all critics would definitely be silenced...This Super Six World Boxing Classic would be an instant PPV cash cow if ever put together...
Golden Boy, Top Rank, etc...Put on an event that will draw more fans to the sport and in a format that will give a fresh perspective to crowning a TRUE lineal, undisputed Champion...Give the fans what they want...
But I guess, in the end, all we can do is hope....
