Hatton Stepping it up?

i dont know the other guy well (oliveira)..so anyone who knows both of these guys well -what are your thoughts???

WBU World Light-Welterweight Champion Ricky Hatton is planning a precise-punching campaign against experienced American Ray Oliveira at the ExCel in London Dockland's on December 11. The Manchester 'Hitman' is renown for his all-action attacking style that focuses on brutal body-punching but for this fight he knows he can't steam in recklessly and has to deliver accurate and devastating shots to breakdown Oliveira's watertight guard.

"I've studied plenty of video tapes of Oliveira and in each fight I have seen he has shown great defensive skills and knows how to keep his chin tucked in and his body covered up. That's why he has never been stopped in his 58-fight career," said Hatton.

"I want to be the first man to stop him and know that I can't just blast straight through him. My job will be to open him up with precise body shots to wear him down and expose that chin to land the KO punch,"

"I don't want a repeat of my fight against Carlos Vilches where I was punching his elbows and damaging my hands so I will be looking to land clean accurate powerful shots on Oliveira's body,"

Hatton has a lot at stake in this fight and knows a loss will shatter his dreams of a showdown with IBF/WBC World Champion Kostya Tszyu next year.

"I'm not underestimating Oliveira one bit. Everything's at stake in this fight and I treat every fight as an eliminator for the world title. One wrong move and my dream of fighting Tszyu are down the pan. But I won't let that happen and am confident I will beat Oliveira." Finished Hatton

Hatton headlines a sensational evening of boxing with the fifteenth defence of his title against Oliveira. Chief-support on the card also features the Vacant Bantamweight Championship of Great Britain between Camden Town's Martin Power and Castleford's Noel Wilders. Joint-chief support is the Vacant Heavyweight Championship of England between Horndon's 'Big Bad' John McDermott and Chesterfield's Mark Krence and there is a full supporting card.

Sucra used to be at least B level a few years ago - we're talking late 90's here, i don't know about know. He's a slick boxer with a good chin, in 58 fights he's only been beaten 8 times by guys like:
Vernon Forrest, Jake Rodriquez, Zack Padilla, Ben Tackie and Reggie Green and he once beat Vivian Harris and Vince Phillips ( the guy Ouma just beat up ).

No this is not a step up fight.

Olivera is flat out shot. When this fight was made I joked that I didn't even know Ray was still fighting. Olivera hasn't evn fought at 140 since 2001. His best win came over a very young Vivian Harris abnout 2/3 years into Harris career

Oliveria is a volume puncher that can make for an exciting fight. His only real problem is he dosen't hit very hard, like most volume punchers, and he has a tendency to get sloppy. He should give Hatton a good fight, but its certainly not what I would call a test. One thing, Oliveria isn't going to come into the fight in awe of Hatton. He is a seasoned vet who had been through this and has the ability to do the upset. Should be fun to watch, but not in any way a step up for Hatton.

Its the perfect warm up for Hatton's suppposed shot at Tyszu, Olivera will bring a high tempo to the fight even at this stage in his career and Hatton will be asked to work hard in order to win. I don't mean that Olivera will be able to hurt Hatton but he will make him work.

I have some concerns however that Tyzsu and Hatton will not meet next year - and not on the part of Hatton. It seems as if the recent win over Mithcell has finally given Tyszu the well over due status that he has deserved for some time and there are several huge names being banneded around at various weights for a 'mega match'. I do think Tyszu/Hatton is a big fight, and more than that a close contest, however in terms of the US networks, the likes of Corrales below or possibly the likes of Mayorga above provide a moutwatering prospect. Personally I would rather see Tyszu stay at 140 and attempt to beat all the comp out there in what is in my opinion the deepest and most exciting division in boxing. To me the likes of Tyszu V Hatton, Tyszu V Cotto, Tyszu V Mayweather are far more apealing.

this is gay...so again we'll have to wait for him to step upp..dammit if witter (people say) aint that good...why wont hatton or PBF fight him..it would be better then this....so i guess we'll have to wait and see where hatton goes after this

TOTALLY AGREE however i dont think its fair to expect him to make such a fight when positioned so well for a shot at a real world title.

This is a marking time fight against a former name and one that beat a very green harris.

Hatotn mid rounds stoppage. Im going with a few mates as the atmosphere will be cracking and the undercard is pretty tasty, its half hour away from my house then its Vitali Danny in the early hours, gonna be a good one, got 12 lads piling round. ship it in. my poor house

Being mandatory these days doesnt mean much. Sure Hatton is the mandatory for Cotto but Hatton isint keen to step up and fight him.
