    Boxing Promotions

Any boxing promotors out there...My question is, how hard is it to get into the boxing promotions business? Im a huge boxing fan who would love to get into this sport via being a manager/promoter. Im an accoutant with a business degree and I have alot of good ideas for some entertaining bouts.

I'm not a promoter but I'm sure Rockin' could direct you to the right person. You might want to PM him if no one who knows responds. Also, I remember a thread about promoting and getting into it a while back, it was mainly about self promoting and the pro's and con's. You might want to take a look at that. Also, if I remember correctly Spinkjinx might have said something about knowing a promoter. Hope this helps.

Promoting is a tough business, especially in my neck of the woods (WV)

While you may see promotion companies like Main events/Goosen Tutor/Kushner all over tv they are still small time.

I would love to be involved in the sport of boxing from a financial standpoint as you are, I am a business major and really savvy with the business world. But man it is a tough shot and a make it or break it type of deal. I am sure Rockin could help you better than most on here due to him being a pro himself and heavily involved.

Personally What Roy Jones and Goossen did with Andre Ward and that group of investors that invested money into Sugar Ray Leonard seems like the smartest choice as they will have the loyalty early. But like I said I am not experience enough to make a say into it.

My connections is my trainer, Tony Tubbs, Michael Acri and the Spadafora camp and Jerry Thomas.

Both promoters are small time and when I spoken to both were very discouraging about even thinking about trying to make it in boxing on a business side, but they dont have any tricks up their sleeve either and dont make a large effort as well.

One of my dorm buddies relative is a boxing promoter. He makes big bucks. However it is a tough business. You have to put lots of your own money down before the fight even starts. Things happen, you can lose lots. Its a hard business, you really have to know your way around or at least get someone to help you when you are just starting out.

How is accouting anyway? I'm thinking of switching from economics to accounting.

I have an M.B.A. in Business Management from the University of Texas at Pan American. I majored in Management, which is a combination of accounting, finance, marketing, and international business. Accounting is difficult, unless you are really fond of calculations, fiscal and monetary issues, and tax law. Other than that:

You might find yourself liking it's popularity in the common workplace. Everyone needs accountants and "Junior Accountants." However boring the job may seem.
