Why didn't Hopkins use Lacy as his tune up for dec 2?

Lacy last fought in August against Jones and lost a 10-round stoppage. It's December now and i'm sure that if Hopkins had offered Lacy a fight for Dec 2, Lacy would have jumped all over that opportunity, even without the proper training.

Lacy has fought at LHW, he's a durable fighter but no longer a threat, just right for a tune up and because of his name and Hopkins name, that tune-up fight would have looked pretty good at least on paper.

There's also other LHW's who are free to fight and would jump on the opportunity to fight a legend like Hopkins. Yusaf Mack, Chris Henry, Shaun George, and even though Byron Mitchell just fought i'm sure he would take the Hopkins fight in on a weeks notice let alone a month.

So why did Hopkins go for a Middleweight? this is what i dislike about him, he's one of my top 3 faves of all time but he has been fighting MW's for his big fights, and now even for a tune-up he gets himself a fringe contender from MW. while Jones, no matter how garbage you think Green is, Jones is fighting him at CW in Australia and Green is nothing close to a journeyman yet.

Does it matter? Hopkins wasn't even going to take a tune up until Jones was still going to fight Green. It's a tune up for godsakes. It doesn't matter who he fights. The opponent for a tune up is still going to be **** regardless.

        What Irony?

Name another fighter that in his last 3 fights has fought 3 fighters coming up in weight by two divisions.

And you're an idiot for wanting to turn this thread in to a you know who thread.

But why not a tune up against Jeff Lacy? Lacy is **** now and if he can stop him before Jones did or not stop him at all then that would give fans something to talk about.

I agree, it would compare Jones and Hopkins performances against a common opponent.

this is true.. i love hopkins but he's a hypocrite..he screams on floyd to fight people his own size..but all his best wins are against smaller fighters...oscar,tito,winky,pavlik..all moved up to fight him

his loses j.t times 2 and calzaghe-fighters his own size

tarver-yea a good win but he was weight drained coming down from 220 +...hopkins has made a living fighting smaller guys and fringe contenders..

Because there is no reason to fight Jeff lacy? Besides Ornelas would probably beat Lacy anyway at this point. Jeff Lacy wouldn't help Bernard prove ****. Roy Jones KOd Lacy and Calzaghe didn't, but we knew how that fight turned out. Hopkins stopping Lacy doesn't prove anything and frankly I'm tired of seeing Jeff Lacy.

The good thing about Bernard's fight with Roy Jones is it's going to snap this pattern of fighting smaller guys as you put it. The only problem is, he isn't going to get any credit for the win.
