first , Sparring is the most important of trainings. It is the closest thing to fighting. ok , second , obviously Cotto cannot spar Pacquiao , so he has to let his opponent at some point gain some momentum , (in sparring) just to practice , the what if's , for example , The guy backs you up, (very possible scenario in this fight) what do i do , He obviously has to counter. Sparring is not about just going in there and having a fake fight. They were sparring , and they emmulate opponents , styles , possible scenarios , angles , punches , tactics , a whole lot of **** , to have a better idea on fight night , to try and prepare for that style. Cotto doesnt need to counter punch to win, but it is very possible that at some point he will be backed up and have to counter U ****ING IDIOT
