But you can't call a boxer "a coward" when you know that you yourself get a bit nervous when a guy stares you down in a bar.

Leonard still picked his opponents very carefully and was oppurtunistic. He saw weakness in Hagler and after that he was very choosey about who he would fight and under what conditions.

Floyd's career follows a similar arc to Leonard's although Leonard's is more impressive.

But that's just not true at all. Leonard only began to be 'pickish' after the Hagler fight where he could have fought Hill and Nunn instead of Lalonde and Duran.

Saying that he fought Hagler only because Hagler lost a step is not true. Leonard had an eyeinjury (detached retina) that prevented him from taking the fight sooner. Besides Leonard didn't force Hagler to fight at a catchweight.... Add also that Leonard was a heavy underdog and that he was going up against the monsterman, a top 3 all-time middleweight, while Leonard himself was a 154 lb'er at most.
