Cotto vs Pacquiao and the similarities of Hopkins vs Trinidad

The upcoming bout between Cotto and Pacquiao reminds me so much of the fight between Hopkins and Trinidad. Cotto being Hopkins and Pacquiao being Tito. Keep in mind I'm not talking about fighting styles, but about the situation.

-Tito was on top of the world and was a heavy favorite to win the fight despite a few naysayers who thought Tito was biting off more than he can chew.

-He was coming off two spectacular wins over Vargas (TKO) and Joppy (early K.O.).

-Trinidad had a very strong legion of Puerto Rican fans who thought their man was unbeatable.

-Everyone was so confident that Tito would win that they were looking past the Hopkins fight for a future superfight with fellow p4p king Roy Jones Jr.

I'm sorry if someone has already pointed this out (I'm sure I'm not the first). I just thought the similarities were striking and I for one believe history will repeat itself. If it doesn't then hopefully we can see the biggest fight of our era with Pacquiao vs Mayweather.

Who would have guessed that Tito would be on the receiving end on one of the greatest Boxing performances of all time?

The situation is similar but the styles are no where near the same.

I suspect Cotto will be the agressor in this fight.

In this situation. Not career wise, style wise, or anything else. You're taking it out of context Mak.

I'll never understand why every time this comes up, the only thing people have to say is that Cotto is no Hopkins and Tito is no Pac.

It's not the fighters that are being compared, it's simply the situation. And the situation does carry many of the same similarities.
