If the formula that Showtime is using for the Super Middleweight division works out I wonder if we might see something similar in the 175 pound weight division.
Really the main hurdle in getting this many guys together is getting them all under the banner of a specific network.
It seems that Showtime already has a couple of the guys at 175 on their network and some of the others are probably very easily signable.
I think people will think Hopkins, Jones or Tarver but I believe the tourney would actually be better off without them as likely only Tarver would be interested, Jones is shot, and Hopkins certainly doesn't have 5 more fights in him.
Here is the roster I propose:
Chad Dawson
Jean Pascal
Glen Johnson
Tavoris Cloud
Juergan Braehmer
Gabriel Campillo
This lineup would have a distinctly global feel to it, it would feature some accomplished vets and some hungry youngsters. It would have all 4 belts involved and whether anyone was stripped for a bogus reason it would leave no doubt as to who is the best.
Dawson is clearly the man in the division but there also isn't going to be any good money for him at 175 without some creative planning.
Same goes for the other guys, they aren't going to make too much money fighting anyone else in a 1 off match, put this into a tournament form, throw in a couple upsets, great performances etc, and it could create a public demand for some fights at 175 that might otherwise never happen.
