Pacquiao is more likely to land the first punch due to his speed. Cotto can gain some advantage too, but Pac is expected to land 2 or 3 for Cotto's one. If they were fighting with 10 or 12oz gloves, Pac's punches wouldn't hurt Cotto as much, so Cotto's edge in power would be more visible.

With 8oz gloves on, they can both hurt each other , but since Pac is probably gonna land more on Cotto than the other way around, it helps him out a lot more.

Also with 8oz gloves on, Cotto will be more susceptible to cuts.

Wait I take back what I said about Cotto being used to wearing 10 ounce gloves, he had worn 8 ounce gloves for the majority of his career, Nevada is one of the only states that requires 10 ounce gloves for fighters below 154. I think Nevada made the same concession when Cotto fought Margarito.

i kind of agree with what you are saying but as cotto is the bigger more powerful man i dont see it as a huge advantage for pac maybe a slight advantage especially if he lands a big shot early and hurts cotto but the longer the fight goes on i see it playing more into cottos hands but we will see nov 14th

but to be 100% honest i dont think this story is true anyway

The Nevada State Athletic Commission on Thursday amended its rule for glove size, putting Las Vegas into the hunt to land the much-anticipated July 26 bout between welterweight titleholder Miguel Cotto and Antonio Margarito.

NSAC did make a revision for this fight. But with all the Margo conterversy that has followed since I can see NSAC saying no way.
