      COTTO L.A. MEDIA DAY!

By Ed de la Vega, DDS

      Wed, 04 Nov 2009

Los Angeles, CA:- Miguel Cotto arrived at the new Pound-4-Pound Gym along La Cienega Blvd., just south of Beverly Hills to keep his appointment with the media.

And, he came well ahead of the scheduled time of 12:00 high noon.

Cotto arrived in a limo with his trainers and a very small entourage and immediately started preparing for his workout.

Cotto’s demeanor tells us that he is dead serious in his preparation for the biggest fight of his life. There was no clowning around even with the Latino media people he recognized. Only polite “como ‘esta” and a small smile.

Cotto appears extremely fit contrary to certain published observations in the media. Although he did not reply when asked how much he presently weigh, he appeared to be somewhere close to the fight weigh of 145 lbs. Therefore, Team Pacquiao can forget about getting a million bucks for every pound that Cotto will weigh above 145 lbs when they officially step on the scales a day prior to the fight.

Cotto flies straight back to Las Vegas after the LA presscon to continue his training leading to the fight on the 14th.

Cotto's Grand Arrival at the MGM Grand (with video)

November 10, 9:25 PMIndianapolis Fight Sports ExaminerDennis "dSource" Guillermo

Fight fans from all across the globe gathered just moments ago to welcome the protagonists of this weekend's mega-fight between the Philippines' Manny Pacquiao and Puerto Rico's Miguel Cotto. The huge turn-out attests to the drawing power of both fighters further giving proof that a bout between two non-American boxers can draw fans in the US as long as it's a legitimate fight between two of the best the sport could offer. And judging by the frenzied response at the MGM Grand this afternoon, its safe to say that this truly is the match-up the world is dying to see.
Below is a video I took from the event as Miguel Cotto arrived at the MGM and was greeted by his vocal fans.

Pacquiao was all smiles as he was warmly greeted by his adoring fans as well with chants of Manny! Manny! Manny! while he parted the crowd like Moses and the red sea. Cotto on the other hand was greeted by his countrymen about an hour after Pacquiao's arrival. The Boricua Bomber is looking lean and mean and ready to inflict as much pain he can on The Pac Man this Saturday. Also present were his team members such as cutman Joe Chavez, strength and conditioning coach Phil Landman and best friend Brian Perez.

Miguel Cotto out for Pound-for-Pound respect against Manny Pacquiao on HBO Pay Per View

                    12-Nov-09

LAS VEGAS - The Fight Factory Gym is in a converted warehouse in a small industrial park in Tampa, Fla. The banners covering the walls trumpet the virtues of all things Miguel Cotto.

But the banner that catches the eye immediately upon entering the gym has Manny Pacquiao's face in the crosshairs of a rifle scope. Across the top of the banner are the words: "On Nov. 14 the world will see who is the real king of the ring."

Miguel Cotto, the WBO welterweight champion, has long ago been out of the conversation about Pound-for-Pound. He doesn't even argue that point anymore.

                    But welterweight? Come on!

After a two-hour workout at the gym last month, a confident Cotto talked about defeating Pacquiao, whose acclaim grew exponentially after he beat Oscar De La Hoya and Ricky Hatton - two larger men who were supposed to put the former 130-pound champion in his place.

His confidence is contagious. He left no doubt in my mind that he has everything he needs to beat Pacquiao. The only qualms I have are with his corner where the inexperienced Joe Santiago will have to match wits with Freddie Roach, Pacquiao's longtime trainer and chief strategist.
