I saw him against Vargas(not Fernando) on FNF......he does indeed have a good jab and some defensive skill. You don't expect a guy with that type of build to fight in the way he does. It won't be nearly enough to beat Vitali though, Johnson is most likely no where near ready for this level of a challenge and will never possess the power to hold off Vitali.

Johnson has a great jab, and you're right, he does seem to be an intelligent boxer.I feel Johnson's Jab is his most impressive punch. His Jab is fast, sharp and accurate. He says he has studied everyone of Larry Holmes and Muhhamad's Ali fight tapes, and it's paid off.
It's one of the best Jabs in the Heavyweight Division. Johnson also has a great boxing brain, and has also been developing some punching power recently.
I have kep a eye on Johnson for many years, and have always been impressed with him and saw his potential.
He's not lacking in physical attributes either - Kevin actually has a longer reach than Vitali and he's physically very strong. His power is underrated - he's sometimes been content to just go for the decision with fighters he may have been able to stop.Comment

Am really looking foward to Johnson vs Klitschko.
How can people not get excited about todays Heavyweights? There are some former Olympic Gold Medalists in the division.
There are big punchers in the division, there are warriors in the division and some excitment aswell as good skilled fighters in the division.
Whats not to like? Just because todays Hevayweight scene isn't filled with American's, with a wild personal life, dosen't mean it's not a good division.Comment

I thought you said you've been keeping an eye on him?
Before he fought Vargas, he would control his opponents with his jab and skill for most of the fight and would just go through the motions. Never trying to step on the gas and take them out.
Vargas didn't react well to his punches from the beginning of the fight so Johnson might have increased his punching power or maybe Vargas' punch resistance isn't that good.Comment

His jab is okay it's not that special. Johnson is a good boxer, but he's not the #1 American heavyweight, Chambers is.Last edited by Boxingwizard; 10-26-2009, 11:39 AM.Comment
