Welterweight contender Alfonso Gomez stopped by 8CountNews and gave us his thoughts on his upcoming fight against Jesus Soto Karass (24-3) this fight will be on the Manny Pacquiao vs Miguel Cotto under-card scheduled for November 14th. The bout will be the opening match on the PPV coverage, and will be for the WBC Continental America's Welterweight title. Gomez has impressive wins over the late Arturo Gatti, and Ben Tackie. He came up short against welterweight world champion Miguel Cotto.
Gomez is currently training for his big fight.
"Training is going good I'm able to train away from home with no distractions its helping me out. I'm training hard for this fight."
Gomez knows in order to be successful in this fight he will need to be able to take punches because Karass is the type of fighter to come at his opponents non stop.
"I'm preparing my body to take jabs from Karass he throws so many body shots. I hired a new strength conditioning coach and that is what we have been working on,so I can be able to take those tough shots."
Coming into this fight Gomez remains extremely optimistic.
"I see myself with the belt around my waste after this fight is over."
Usually Alfonso Gomez is the underdog in every fight since his beginning days on the contender.
"Fighting Arturo Gatti,Miguel Cotto,Ishe Smith,Peter Manfredo Jr.was a great experience for me. I want to fight Matthew Hatton next it would be good for fans especially for UK fans.I want a chance in the future to fight Shane Mosley or Andre Berto for the title.I want to win a world title one day."
Gomez fought Miguel Cotto back in 2008 the fight was stopped and resulted in a loss for him.
"I was defeated by Cotto .I call it a defeat because I suffered from pancreatic problems which limited my training and I wasn't prepared for that fight."
Gomez thoughts on who will win the Pacquiao vs. Cotto match up.
"This fight is for Pacquiao to win. He is fast and strong.Pacquiao should win."
Gomez concluded our interview with a message to his fans." I want to thank all of my fans who have supported my boxing career all these years. Thank you Sabrina for this interview."
