It's all in Winky's style. He fights with his pillow gloves in front of his face and wasn't able to see Vazquez dipping low and under his shots,. Winky is always going to have trouble with squat volume punchers - see Soliman, and Vazquez. Plus, Vazquez wasn't a bad fighter either...he defended his title I believe 10 times and that is better then alot of welterweights in the HOF.

Winky claims 3 of those were slips, he could have won on the scorecards if not for those knockdowns, but Vasquez was strong in his prime, everyone was picking him to beat sweet pea because of his size and strength, and thats how great whitaker was when he dominated Vasquez.

True that. Vazquez was one of the better 154 pounders in the short history of that division. He was tough as nails and was very heavy-handed. Whitaker put on a clinic that night and actually fought Vazquez' fight for a good deal of the time.

Vazquez only really lost once in his prime...the loss to Whitaker. I wish I could have seen that comeback KO victory over Carl Daniels.

Will vazquez be a hall of famer?

Besides azumah nelson and ramirez, who else did whitaker beat thats good enough to make hall of fame. IMO, buddy mcgirt did more than ken norton and he has a decent record against top level fighters.

We all know whitaker beat chavez, at least 1 judge gave it to whitaker. None of them gave it to the king of fixed fights.

jose luis ramirez, buddy mcgirt, meromero paez and vazquez are all kind of outside-looking-in type fighters for the HOF. ramirez was a two time champ, mcgirt was well accomplished, paez was a champion who made multiple defenses of his titles, vazquez was the same as paez.

i don't think vazquez will make it, but if pipino cuevas can get in there then any of those guys i just mentioned are just as deserving.

To me the scores show Wink can fight since he lost a close fight after 5 KDs.After this fight is when he adopted his more defensive style and mastered it.He is virtually unbeatable at MW and JMW.....period.

My memory of that fight was its a come from behind KO by Vasquez over Carl Daniels, yes that right after he lost to sweet pea, I wonder why Terry Norris never considered fighting Vasquez.
