    Curtis Stevens interview

Curtis "Showtime" Stevens (6-0, 6 KO's) stepped into the squared circle on his birthday March 10th at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City. For this special day he unwrapped his gift of four knockdowns and shared them with his opponent who kept using them all up. Stevens didn't appreciate that so he sent the guy across the ring packing. ********** was able to talk with Curtis Stevens about fighting on his birthday. We also spoke about his being able to fight twice in less than a month, the competition between he and his partner Jaidon "The Don" Codrington (7-0, 7 KO's), and what we can expect from him when he steps into the ring at the House of the Chin Checkers in April. (Hammerstein Ballroom). See what 'Showtime' had to say.

Jose Aguirre: On March 10th, which was also your birthday, you had a fight at the Hammerstein Ballroom. Tell us the feeling of fighting on your birthday and the present you gave yourself.

Curtis Stevens:"To box on my birthday was an honor. There was alot of adrenaline running on my birthday. I wanted to have an excellent knockout and have the ****ing after-party after that. I felt good but I didn't feel good about the knockout. That's not me. I knock opponents the f___ out. Now this guy I didn't knock him out. I was dropping him even though he was arkward with the old school slick style. That's all good. I was dropping him but I didn't knock him out the way I do.  Ezzard Cooper, I wanted one of them knockouts for my birthday."

JA: Tell us about him being able to withstand what you had to offer and being able to get back up after being down four time.

CS:"He wasn't able to withstand himself because as you can see every time I hit him I dropped him. It was the pop. I wasn't turning all the way into my punches like I'm used to. Hey, every fight is a learning experience."

JA: How does it feel being able to fight twice in less than three weeks?

CS:"Great because I'm right there with my boy Jai.  I'm on Jaidon's ass right now. Usually he was 7-0 and I was 4-0. Now he's 7-0 and I'm 6-0. I'm great. I'm on his ass like white on rice."

JA: Is there some kind of unspoken competition between you two?

CS:"You know we have a competition for the knockouts. We switched it. Now it's not the fastest knockouts anymore. It's the pretties knockouts. Anyone can have a quick knockout. I can come in there and hit someone with a million punches and the ref is going to jump in and stop it. Now we're doing the prettiest knockouts like guys getting up and falling back down."

JA: How anxious are you to get back into the ring on April 28th?

CS:"Very anxious baby. To me, my last fight on March 10th I felt so bad I took it as, I didn't take it as a lose but I took it as when I come back it's going to top it. I felt disappointed in myself actually because the crowd was booing. Booo. Nobody boos Showtime, nobody."

JA: You have to understand it was the first show put together by Ron Resnick and Jed Weinstein and reports coming out were that it was not a good show. It was a blacktie event which included poker and cigars and not your hard core Broadway Boxing fans. Share with us your feelings on the reception they gave
    you.

CS:"The show was excellent but you had people smoking. Messing the game up. How you smoking inside a spot where a fighter is fighting at?"

JA: What can the fans expect from Showtime come April 28th when you step into that ring?

CS:"Some real crazy ****. I'm coming back with a vengeance."

JA: How excited are you to be returning to the Hammerstein Ballroom?

CS:"Oh the Hammerstein. You know that's my home base. That's me. That's where I'm at. That's what I do. That's like Brownsville but it isn't. It's the home away from home."

JA: Is there anything you want to say to the boxing public, people all around the world and on **********.com?

CS:"First off **********, thank you for everything that you do for us. Boxing fans holla at your boy Show. I'm doing what I'm doing and I am not going to stop doing what I'm doing because that isn't me, I am not a quitter. Im getting focused. Get ready because it isn't going to be like March 10th even though that was a knockout. This one is going to be the knockout of the year so holla."

Alan Green would knock them both out with either hand.
