He did a lot of running but he also outboxed Froch by countering effectively for short spells in most of the rounds. If you can't see that then you don't understand the sport. Fights aren't scored on the basis of whether you find someone boring. As for the hugging, Hopkins does a lot more of that than Dirrell did, and Hatton does it far more. That's not a criteria in the scoring, unless the ref deducts points for it.
Mcguigan: Dirrell Beats Abraham, Froch Will Do Better

In the opinion of retired boxing great Barry Mcguigan, WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch, and contender Andre Dirrell, will do better in their upcoming fights in the Super Six tournament. Froch beat Dirrell with a split decision last weekend in Nottingham. [details]Comment

If Direll is to have a chance against the abrahammer he'll need to show some more guts. He does have a chance though.
McGuigan is right about Froch-Kessler to a degree. Kessler is more orthodox but it really is BS about the straight lines. Check the Andrade fight for reference. Kessler's footwotk is topnotch and Froch will not land many blows in this fight while Kessler will hit him with volley upon volley.Comment

Kessler will make Froch miss as bad as Dirrell did but he will be able to do it without moving more than 2 or 3 feet at a time and Froch will get some nasty counters he didn't get from Dirrell as a result.
His footwork is his greatest asset and he probably uses his feet to generate offense better than any fighter in the game today.Comment

This is a good example of why I like to hear the opinions of fighters (real boxing experts) rather than those of web-journalists (self-proclaimed experts). All of those boxing writers who seriously thought Froch handled Dirrell have zero clue about how to score a fight. They go around and around saying Dirrell fought "negatively." What the hell does that mean? As best as I can tell it means that they just didn't like his style. I agree with anyone who thinks that Dirrell held and complained way too much against Froch, but he also happened to land way more punches than Froch and had the man repeatedly buzzed. You don't win rounds by fighting "positively." You win by landing more and hurting your opponent more. That's what Andre Dirrell did.Comment

Dirrell didn't land many clean punches - neither of them did. And he only buzzed Froch once, not several times; and he was hurt himself more than once. Aggression is the second most important criterion that judges are supposed to use when scoring a fight. Two of the judges just gave the aggression criterion slightly more weight than you did, that's all, plus they felt that Froch landed more effective punches than Dirrell. You can disagree, and I scored it narrowly to Dirrell myself; but no way was it a robbery. And you can't pretend that aggression isn't one of the criteria that judges are supposed to use.
And people who make their living from their boxing expertise are not self-proclaimed experts. They are only able to make a good living from it because their level of expertise is respected in the industry. Those whose analysis is not respected in the industry can't make a good living from it. You certainly don't get to write for publications like The Ring if you are not respected in the industry.Last edited by Dave Rado; 10-24-2009, 04:42 PM.Comment

Let's get something straight...
...Dirrell beat Froch. We all know that. and the only problem with this tournament is that it's still boxing and therefore still crooked and therefore the tournament will mean absolutely nothing once it is over.Comment
