    Rankings: Pac-man back on top

By Kevin Iole, Yahoo! Sports, Sat, 24 Oct 2009
The Yahoo! Sports monthly rankings underwent big changes in October despite the fact that none of the top-ranked fighters were in action. Manny Pacquiao, who faces Miguel Cotto on Nov. 14 in Las Vegas in what is expected to be a high-paced bout, supplanted Floyd Mayweather Jr. for the top spot. M Read Full Story >>>

I still can't believe that Marquez took the hardest fight in the sport today at a weight he could just not win at, at an age where he was well past his due by date and, even though he was meant to get knocked out, people put him down from the number two spot to five below Williams (I mean, WTF?), and Mosley?

Come on people! What the **** is wrong with you? Unlike Mosley, a big WW who had fought at JMW for many years he didn't even want to fight Mayweather, not that long ago, and yet Marquez takes a fight he was meant to get blasted out in and went the full twelve fighting hard.

How could he be put below Mosley who not that long ago lost to Cotto?

I don't even want to go into Williams being number three. That's just ****ing ******. Did he get there because Pavlik pulled out of their fight? So, he won the fight and got put to 3rd spot because supposedly Williams is just so good that Pavlik's infection came back because even the infection knew Pavlik would get knocked out and so stopped him fighting because he didn't want him to be embarrassed. Number three?

The biggest risk taker in the sport today shouldn't be pulled down for taking the biggest risks and losing against literally impossible odds while others are put up for doing **** all or fighting a 40 year old dude who had been inactive as hell and looking terrible in his last few fights.

Pac, Mayweather, Marquez then whoever else. That shouldn't change yet though.

I get what you're saying but I don't think the pound 4 pound rankings work like that.
Marquez gets great credit from me for taking that mammoth challenge with so many negatives to it but sadly that is why it's a risk. This is why RJJ took on Ruiz, not Lennox. If RJJ had fought Lewis he'd have been battered and knocked out but against a better (the best) heavyweight at the time. He wouldn't have soared so high in the p4p rankings despite it being a bigger challenge.

If Marquez'd have won or even been running real close he would have held or risen in the rankings but he got blown out. There's no discredit to the great warrior but P4P is purely discretionary and Marquez was beaten easily.

How embarassingly Marq was beat, dropped him on the list... If he would have been more competitive like in the Pac fights, then it wouldn't have happened.

I call this the "Mayweather effect"... any opponent you can think of that has lost to Mayweather has suffered this backlash.
