Vivian Harris and his bizzare career/financial decsions?

Why has Vivian Harris just offered to fight Miguel Cotto for $50,000 when last year he turned down £750,000 (that's about $1.3 million) to fight Ricky Hatton?.... He turned down the Hatton fight because he learned that Hatton would be earning slightly more than him and HE was the Champion. But I say - "The only reason you were getting paid $1.3 million to fight Hatton is because it's Hatton who is selling 20,000 seat each time!"

When are fighters (Hopkins/Mayweather included) gonna learn that you can't just win a belt and expect to get paid the BIG $$$'s!! You have to put in the ground work from day one, get out there and market yourself... And most importantly - Build yourself a fan base!!!

I dunno... What do you guy's think?

I think Harris has priced himself out of his last fight. Now that he is broke (bankrupt, actually), he will take anyone for any price. He offered 50K for Cotto because he knows that will make the fight much easier since Cotto can make so much more. Hell, they were willing to give Sharmba 800K for a fight, that's 750 more for Cotto's pocket.

Bankrupt ... I think it might be time for Vivian Harris to hand over the financial/negotiating side of his career to someone else and just concentrate on his boxing.

He may end up in 5yrs time being a "Who's Vivian Harris?" and having no money!

Vivian tends to think that if he beats the hottest prospect in boxing right now he will make the big bucks. He is wrong, it didnt work for Hopkins and wont work for Vivian.

Vivian will need to beat Cotto and then beat another top name to earn the big dollars.

Vivian is becoming wasted talent unfortunately.

Years later we will see Vivian in a big money fight coming to the ring to the song "My Way" because he managed his career his way. Then he will become partners with Cotto, and they'll become promotors and will call Oscar De La Hoya and Bernard Hopkins dinosaurs.

To respond to martin's first post...it seems these fighters are confusing how the game should be with how it really is, in regards to who should make more money. (The champ or the draw.)

Jack the Rippuh - I agree with what you're saying, but there are so many champs out there these day's with so many different belts!

Kostya Tszyu is getting paid $5 million to fight Ricky Hatton in Manchester M.E.N. (That's a lot more than the $1.3 million Harris got offered), and Ricky Hatton is happy to take a big paycut for the oppertunity to fight Tszyu.

There's a big difference between Harris and Tszyu in that Tszyu is the people's champ... Vivian can only bring the WBA belt to the bargining table, That's it... Kostya Tszyu no matter where he fights in the World is gonna draw a big crowd of his own anyway!

If Hatton beats Tszyu (he wont) but if he does, He better bring his ass to the U.S. and fight another top 140 pound fighter who we will become forgotten.

Spinks Man... I totally agree! And Hatton WILL do that. Ricky Boy said that his biggest ever dream would be to fight at either Madison Sq Gardens or Las vegas topping the bill.

He said that if he wins the IBF belt. his 1st step will be to try and unify the division, and he craves a fight with Gatti.

The thing I'm interested about (getting ahead of myself a liitle ..LOL!..) is with reference to this thread... Will he give Vivian Harris another chance seeing as Vivian ****ed him around the 1st time?
